I have a 5 months old long-haired cat . I clean his litter box every morning (when i wake up) and night (before i sleep) , and before i clean the litter i wipe his butt to prevent stains on the carpet. This morning when i wiped his butt , there was blood on it . not a lot of blood.(This happened about an hour ago) and he's not bleeding now. His poop looks and smells normal , but he pooped more than usual. I was wondering if this could be the reason why his butt is bleeding?   oh and about a week ago he swallowed a few strings , they weren't long but it was about 6 strings stuck to each other .. maybe this is causing the blood? He's playing, running, eating, drinking, peeing normally. pooping normally before this morning (it was more than usual). I have an appointment with the vet tomorrow because he has his vaccination so I'll ask about the bleeding tomorrow. The vet is closed today .

Lets hope it goes on smoothly, with a little luck it may solve itself. But good you ARE going to see the vet - that is the safe way to go.

This with extra poo was perhaps Natures own way to try and solve the problem, get things going...

Good luck!

Worms can also cause blood in stools so you might want to de-worm him.

But he could have just passed a large stool and it, uh, caused irritation.

I wouldn't worry about it to much if it just happened once. But since your going to the vet I'd ask anyways it doesn't hurt. :)

Your vet might want to do a fecal sample to be safe so you might want to bring one to save a trip you can always toss it out at the vet if they don't want to do it.
