I just listened to my voice mail on my cell and I had an official sounding message that a tax lein had been filed against me.  Of course I am freaking out but I thought it didn't sound right because I had not gotten any mail about it.  I called the number back and got an official message about all the agents being busy and to leave a message which I did not do.  I did a reverse look up on the number and found this message about it, Claims they have a tax lein filed against you. SCAM.

The number is 877-410-5934.  I am sure if I had talked to someone they would have asked for my SSN.

I've heard about that one, Denice. All very official-sounding, but it is a scam. Glad you caught it!

Don't call back.  Part of certain scams is to get you to return the call and then you get charged exorbitantly for the call!

I ignore any numbers on the cell phone I don't recognize.

I always Google the numbers I don't recognize, especially 800 or 888 or any of those kinds of numbers. If I'm home and have the time, I'll Google them before I pick up my phone too. Too many scams out there.

Thanks for the heads up.  Now that it's tax season here in the US, there will probably be a those kinds of scams around.

I used to Google unfamiliar numbers all the time, but now there's no free reverse lookup, so you can't find out who it is unless you pay a website. Maybe 0800 numbers are different, but I just ignore those.

Glad you didn't fall for the scam Denice!

Wow, really? I find if they are scammy numbers, the first 3 pages of Google results will already be links to sites about scams.
I guess it's good the only places that call me are telemarketers and businesses that would be listed right on Google's results pages.

Sometimes I'm afraid for my parents or grandmother because they're more trusting - not really naive, but not as wary as we've learned to adapt to be. I wish what they were used to, that idea that people are honest and looking to help others instead of prey on them was the truth today. Since I don't live with them anymore, I can't "moderate" the jerks who email or call them with sketchy propositions.

This was a website that was a paid service but at the bottom there was the message about being a scam.  I guess they will still warn people about known scam numbers for free.

Thanks for the heads up! A friend of mine got a call like that, too. The caller claimed there was lawsuit filed against her for tax evasion. Obviously, the call was a bluff. She reported it to the police.

I sometimes get messages from the 'bank' in England concerning all sorts of different things. I just delete them.

We just now received a phone call with the woman claiming to be from the IRS. She simply said to call a number to talk to an agent. Rick just hung the phone up.

Tax season is coming up......

I have been getting several scam calls lately. One call is from someone saying they are Microsoft and want to fix my computer. They call every day and I ignore the call. The other one I had was the person saying they are from the IRS>

Yes I have had a few calls from the "IRS" and I guess because I am in the legal profession felt comfortable telling them what a big felony is was posing as the IRS. All of these callers had very thick accents and by the quality of the sound quality it is definitely a foreign call line with a domestic number. If you are being audited by the real IRS you will get a letter in the mail not a call and would be asked to contact them. Just to show you the shady quality of these people that call the last time I argued with the guy that called he started speaking to me in a very inapproprate way mentioning my female body parts and what he wants to do with them. These people are shady snakes just hang up on them.

I just went into our home phone log online and it was our phone number calling us. So, not only is the IRS calling us, but they're spoofing it to make it seem like they're using our number to call. Just more proof that it was a phishing scam. Rick said it was a recording, not a live person.

And no, we're not calling them back.
