My second favourite animals are hamsters, even though my first favourite are cats.

So, hamster lovers? (Just wondering.)

I love hamsters. I miss the one my brother and I "shared custody" of. He was living in another city (the city I'm in now, actually) and he would come back home with the hamster in tow, and I would watch him for a couple months and we would swap back and forth. The only drawback with small mammals like hamsters, gerbils, mice, and rats is they have such a heartbreakingly short life span!

I used to petsit my friend's hamsters whenever she went camping too.

Mine and my brother's hamster, Caramel.

My friend's hamster, Sheik.

My friend's hamster, Merlin.

One of my last gerbils lived for just over 4 years
That's super old. Even the vet was surprised with my "little old lady". I also had a mouse live for almost 2 years.

Hamsters are cute but I prefer small furries that aren't nocturnal.

I would love a hamster, but I think my cats would do harm to it. When we had hamsters and Guinea Pigs we did not own cats.

@pinkdagger  My daughter had a hamster that looked like Carmel.  Her hamsters name was Carmel also.  We had him when our dog was still alive. Carmel would lay on the dogs back when she layed down. I have a picture, but it is not digital. It was very cute because our dog was a Red Australian  Cattle Dog and Carmel was camouflaged.

Aww! I would love to have another critter around again. Unfortunately I'm not in a position to provide the time and money for another animal.

One of my friends was interested in getting a hedgehog and I had such a good time researching with her, but it fell through when the breeder refused to meet her when she mentioned fur allergies (hedgies only have furry bellies, but the breeder took that as a red flag from her). I need more friends with small pets so I can get my "fix" through them.

The only one of the little rodent like animals that I have thought I might like to have is a Guinea Pig.  From what I understand they tend to interact a lot with people even to the point of 'talking' to them.

Guinea pig whines are adorable! I love their vocalizations, and I love when they and rabbits popcorn. Cutest thing to watch.

Rats are VERY social animals, and very, very interactive - like tiny dogs, and they're brilliant (in a way that most people recognize, not just in an animal way). I also first met chinchillas when I was hanging out at a local pet store when I was around 9 or 10 years old, and they are honestly like touching a cloud. So incredibly soft and docile.

Me, me!  I love hamsters.  I like the way they puff their little cheeks full of food.  I had three as a teenager.  I also like Guinea Pigs.  I had one as a child that an elderly lady had donated to the zoo because she could no longer care for him.  My neighbor worked at the zoo, they didn't want him, and so he offered him to me.  He was wonderful.  (RIP my sweet Oscar.)  The hamster pics in this thread are too cute.  Thank you for sharing.

Abby is so sweet looking in at the hamster.  I am afraid Daisy would find a way to get that little roof off of the aquarium with her little cat hands...even if it was nailed shut.

We had guinea pigs, they made a noise like Freep! Freep! Freep!  It was so cute.

We also had hamsters and white mice for awhile.  Love them all.

I am in love with my ham man Lupin! He is likely the best taken care of hammy in my area lol. He's 7 months old and a Russian Cambell's Dwarf and love's lots of attention so we are working on introducing them through the tank walls just for Hazel to get used to him lol. I am an active member of a popular hamster forum and spend a lot of time teaching others how to properly take care of their little hammies. I even trim his nails myself!

Here's Lupin and then his cage :)

I love hamsters! I grew up with a couple of hamsters that I loved so dearly! My first was named Lucky, and he lived until he was 3! He was pretty much all grey fur before he passed of old age.

I was always amazed at how much food they stuffed into their little cheeks!! :lol3:

Their cheeks reach almost to their back legs!

I never had a hamster but I did have two Guinea Pigs a few years back.  I really loved them, they are so cute and cuddly. I was with them when each one of them died.  It really broke my heart.
