What number of cats makes you "crazy?"

I'm just curious. How many cats do you think someone has to have to officially be called a crazy cat lady? Some people already consider me to be one because I have no children and dote on and obsess about my TWO cats. One of my coworkers told me that if you have more than four cats, you are officially crazy. I think you may be a little nutty when your number of cats reaches the double digits. What do you guys think?

I don't think it's about any number. It's more about whether the cats dominate your life. Some houses are on a large property with 10-12 cats running around, but it never feels cramped and there are enough humans to match. Other households could be one person living with two or three cats in a small apartment, and if that person is obsessed with their cats, they would be a crazy cat person.

I would argue you don't even need one cat to be a crazy cat person. I'm pretty crazy about the types of pets I don't have, but the ones that I do have, I'm just another level of crazy for.

My Instagram profile just says "your garden variety crazy cat and crazy bird lady". I dote on my two cats and three birds, and would do so even if I did have children.

...with the cats...
i've got one cat, my snick, and one foster (who i'll adopt eventually), jasper.

i recently came across this listing for a digital print on etsy dot com -- https://www.etsy.com/listing/127766...es-digital-print?ref=fp_item&aref=23007672690   i love it! and that's just how i think too. i've told my friend many times that "it's snick's house, so i'm not going to shut her in a room so such-and-such can come over to visit". note:  my friend lives in another state, so it isn't her coming over and asking to have my snick shut in a room. i'm considering buying that print, framing it, and putting it up in the entryway of my house -- so it's seen first thing upon entering my house. i would have no problem pointing to that print as needed.

Wow, guess we are in the "crazy range". Two in the garage as indoor\outdoor and 4 in the house...they just keep dumping them!!!
Two made the 400 ft walk from our gate on the road to our deck as barely weened kittens tossed out of a car. The last one came out of a UPS truck delivering packages!
As I view it our choices are ignore them as starving kittens and they will go away (die), dump them on the next house, or have our vet put them down. No..all the shelters are full ALL the time as are the cat rescue organizations in our area....tried that with the last two.
However the next " uninvited guest" will probably go to our vet as we are saturated.

By the way I also have a TNR colony of 8 at my brother-in-laws barn I feed every other day.

This is also a two edged sword since while I enjoy the cats I am limited by who I can get to "stand in" for me when\if I ever travel. Let's see...70 year old man and a bevy of cat averaging 2 years in age...who will out live who?

I think the crazy cat lady title is usually reserved for the single woman who had never been married and has no children, but has cats. Dogs for some reason are acceptable but cats .....no. How ridiculous it is to only have 2 and be called that? I had six at one point and I'd agree I may have been teetering towards the title. But to be called "crazy" I don't think 4. "Crazy" is 6 o'clock news material where you horde cats and you seem to be the only one in the world who thinks they are properly cared for.

I think dogs don't apply because dog owners are still forced to get outside now and then because the care of a dog mandates taking it for walks and letting it potty outdoors, and to some degree, you do have to socialize your dog with the outside world, whereas a crazy cat person could quite literally have all of their cat needs delivered to their door, which would mean their entire life COULD be lived inside going stir crazy and cat crazy.

I have five cats. I said I'd never have more then three, but things change ;)

I'm also a single woman, I don't think I want kids and my life do revolve a lot around my cats.

I volunteer at a cat shelter at least once a week. I always try to make the life of my kitties the best it can possibly be, aka find better food etc.

I've been called a crazy cat lady a lot of times, but I usually just ask people what makes someone crazy and what makes them a cat lady?

Do you have to be mentally ill and love cats? If yes, then that description fits me perfectly!

I just wish people would stop putting other people down for loving something "too much"

I have a feeling I'm well on my way to being crazy, but I don't think my cats have much to do with it! I know I must be a 'crazy cat lady' especially when the person's eyes start to glaze over when I'm talking about my cats, or my husband says "is that ALL you talk about?!" I just can't believe people aren't fascinated with cats the way I am. I feel sorry for people who don't or can't love animals, they contribute so much to our lives. Especially people who say they 'hate' cats!
How could they!!! I don't particularly like dogs, but I would never hate or purposely hurt one!

My happy place.
I had 3 cat's but now have 2 and my friends and family call me a crazy cat lady.
It's not so much how many cats I have but all the cat "things" I have. I have my cat's pictures in frames, cat quotes on canvases a cat bag and cushion and some really nice pewter cat ornaments. Oh and a large wooden cat that sits in my kitchen.
Oh well.........:lol3:

mickNsnicks2mom, I LOVE that sign! My hubby looked over at me while I was reading it and asked me what I was smiling at. :lol3:

One, I think it would depend on how crazy you are over your cats. Two, Probably about five or more.

My parents once (A LONG time ago.) had five cats!

I sometimes get embarrassed if people take my phone to look at my photos because they are all of my cats!!!!!
Hahah! I know how that feels!

My phone has about 90% cat pictures and 10% (at most) food and my little sister.

My cousin actually said to me that I should get a life and that it's sad that my life revolves around my cats. She's eleven...

The precise number of cats which determine if you're a crazy cat person (and not in a good way) is found by multiplying the number of livable rooms (excludes the bathroom and kitchen) in one's apartment or house by 2. In other words, two adult cats per livable room... any more than that and you're a crazy cat person

When you talk to cats ignoring another person being next to you, then I would say symptoms are already there, no matter how many cats there is.

But note that it is not bad thing to be crazy cat lady, it is just that 'outsiders' lack knowledge of cats and can't understand connection between cats and humans :D
