I discovered a brand of cat food called "Red Barn". It's decent quality and pretty inexpensive, around $1.25 for a 5.5 oz can. I've been trying out the chicken flavor in our rotation.
There's some ingredients I usually avoid, such as potato starch and some veggies which makes it probably a bit too high in carbs, but overall, it fits the bill in other ways; grain free, no carageenan, etc. Plus, I liked their mission statement, they seem reputable and got decent reviews so using it in rotation (a couple of times a month) made sense.
However, even though both cats seem to enjoy it, Casper has now thrown up several times after eating it. I think it's no coincidence. I don't think it's a quality issue because Cocoa has been fine. I suspect that the potato starch could be the issue since none of the other foods I feed them contain it.
Has anyone else had a problem feeding your cats with potato starch? I'm bringing back the two remaining cans to the pet store. Luckily, they will take back anything unopened. In fact, they are good about taking back even opened kibble if there seems to be a problem.
Thanks!
