Hey everyone, I am having a couple of dilemmas, first off, I need to get my kitten neutered but where I moved to has no low cost neutering, its 300, so that's either rent or groceries, but back home it's only 45 and that's including everything, but I'm worried about him freaking out because we aren't at home so I want him to be comfortable and I'm worried about leaving my other cat at home all weekend,

Another thing is he is destroying everything from our door frames to shades with his scratching and I have no clue how to stop it!
Can anyone help???

First reach out to any local rescue groups and ask them about low cost neutering. Some of them will have hook ups, or might be able to get your kitty neutered under a discount program.

If you still can't find an affordable place to do the neuter at then take him back home (I'm not sure how far away it is) and do the neuter there. Either trip will stress him out some, but neuters are so un-invasive he'll be find. Your other kitty will be find at home for about 24 hours all by herself (just feed and give her fresh water before you leave) if you're going to be gone longer then that I'd arrange for somebody to come by and feed and water her. If your boy will be gone longer then 48 hours just keep in mind you might have to re-introduce the kiddos.

In regards to the scratching, what kind of scratching post do you have? Some kitties like carpet, some like wood, some like cardboard. Also if it's a just a tiny scratching post he might not like it because he can't really dig into it. I always recommend ones at least three feet tall. The key is to understand cats must scratch and you just need to provide a safe place for him to do so.

Since I've gotten one of those cheap, 9.99, corrugated cardboard scratchers, my cats haven't touched my furniture, they LOVE them! You might want to try it. I agree with everything above, but be prepared for your at home cat to freak out at all the new smells when the other comes home, be careful,l they might fight. Over the years I have found that neutered cats seem to get over the surgery easily, and are up and back to normal as soon as the next day. Don't put off the neutering though, if you do he will start to spray, get aggressive, and become an escape artist. I leave my cats alone for a couple of days and have not had any problems at all. Just leave extra food and water, and maybe an extra litter box, and yours should be fine. Good luck!

Well there are no rescue groups down in the area, I've looked everywhere, I'm just worried about him being really stressed and rather have him be comfortable at home, we'd be gone for 2 days cause it's 4 1/2 hours to home.

For scratching I have two. The little one he didn't like so we bought a giant tower he loves but doesn't really scratch on he just likes climbing it and ocassionally scratches.

Where do you live? Just the city or a near by city. I'll see what I can find.

I'd recommend getting one of the cardboard scratchers and see if he likes them.

One of my kitties it's all he uses. My blind kitties uses them when walks on them... and rest ignore them and use the trees.... Each cat likes their own thing.

I live in onalaska Wisconsin. The closest aspca is 3 1/2 hours that does cheap neuters. Everywhere I've called is 250-300 dollars for them because they want him to get shots (which I don't mind) and some test done and then pre surgery check out. Which I don't get. But all that is like 40$ a pop

Most vets want to do a blood tests before hand that you should be able to opt out of which is will save a chunk of money.

I found these for you on petfinder.com

http://www.couleehumane.com/vets/ - Your local humane socitey, that page in particular links to a list of vets for you.

http://www.lacrescentanimalrescue.com/ - A local rescue group, looks about 20/30 minutes away from you.

http://asapcatshelter.weebly.com/about.html - In Sparta, less then an hour away. They mention they assist with spay/neuters depending on funds, but they might know a cheap vet.

I'd email those three groups to see what you can find or who they recommend for low cost spay/neuter
