You can see the nipples go redrosy at about day 21...  Count from there. But lets say it was exactly this day you went to the vet, and it was why she was so sure on day 20.  Wait, it means she is very near now, being on the verge of overdue?   Tough!   The waiting game is in full!

Anyways, cats seems to manage being overdue better than humans.  While kittens manage premature delivery much worse than human babies, so of two bad things, being overdue is the less dangerous for them.

Her belly isnt very big, so either she has a small litter, or it has already dropped - which it usually does a couple of days before delivery.

I presume you feel the kittens moving?  How long had you done it?

May I ask, why did you go to vets 17 dec?  you wanted her to have a litter and hoped to get the pregnancy confirmed?

I send some of our links, they may become useful to you.

You are of course welcome for more questions - and reports.   Usually we do answer!

Good luck!

Most of these links have been readied by our forumist  Red Top Rescue:

We have a good collection of articles in the Cat Health section which you can access by scrolling up to the brown bar, clicking on Articles, and then choosing the Cat Health section and scrolling through the choices.  To make this super easy for you, I am copying the links regarding birth, delivery and newborns for you here.  After reading this information, let us know if you have any more questions.  And good luck with your approaching new arrivals.

Thank you!

I have not felt the kittens moving cuz if i put my hand on her belly for more than a few seconds she gets up and walks off...

And its her first litter so i think its a small one..

We went on dec 17 cuz we suspected that she was preggers and she looked bigger and nipples had gotten color and were bigger..and her lower abdomen was also hanging..

If you dont clearly feel the kittens - hey, you should be able to see them moving!  You had two fully weeks to notice!    Also, they dont look preggy at day 21, it usually takes still at least two weeks...   Experienced cat owners and breeders can distinguish small signs earlier, even before day 21, but its rare common owners of a family girl do so.

Then   Its fully possible she has a false pregnancy. Its not that unusual.

You were at the vets who confirmed, but at about day 20 the vet cant either really know anything.  I presume they can take blood samples and see the contain of hormones, but I presume also, she went after these typical rosed teats and talked from experience, not because of definite and sure confirmed knowledge..  Or??

We will see!

ps.   Work parallelly: prepare for the birth according to all rules and be vigilant, bu dont be surprised  nor disappointed if it shows to be a false pregnancy.

If it is false pregnancy, please do spay her as soon its feasible and the vet agrees.

Good luck!

ps.  She seems to be a little beauty!!!  Do I see right, she has blue eyes? not so common with cats who arent siameses.   Does she has any troubles with hearing?  some wholly white cats have such troubles being more or less deaf..

How to differentiate between an actual pregnancy and a false one?

If they are best friends, he is probably no danger for the kittens.  He may even help her with them.

So if she wants him near and doesnt mind, you can allow them to be togehter.   Be vigilant, to be sure, at least in the beginning, but its a rather safe bet.

I presume he isnt molesting or irritating her in any way.  She doenst need to be stressed in these time.

But as he is fertile, observe she isnt protected by lactacing.  She may get pregnant again very soon after delivery...

Its not easy for a cat owner.   It becomes clear in the end, when you feel and see them kittens move.

Easier for a vet of course, who can palpitate and feel if there are fetuses.  Or even better take some ultra sound.  X-rays are also possible, but it costs much, unnecessary much here.

But these palpitations works first midway, at 3 weeks I dont think its possible to palpitate yet.

If you dont feel them kittens, it may be time to visit the vet again, and make sure.  IF it is a false pregnancy, it may be time to give her hormones which will end the false pregnancy...

I am planning to go to the vet today and confirm the pregnancy....One more thing..she is excessively rolling on the floor the past week and she never used to do that before even when in heat ...do they roll on the floor if its a false pregnancy?

17 dec = 20 days. 30 dec=33 days, 30 jan = 63 days (acutally 64), yesteday the fifth =68 day at least...

You feel kittens the two last weeks, possibly some more if you are used at feeling on your cats tummy.  So roughly from 20 of january.

The last days before delivery you dont feel them as much, as they go down into the birthing positions.  And if you feel them, they are in a different place then before.

it may be she is in heat again...

We had such an experience with our oldest resident who once upon a time was a young stud.

So, he had his first wife at home, wedding done at last after some experiments, she goes back home, and yes, she is pregnant.  We do happily wait for the outcome, get now and then reports from the owner.  So the day 65 nears as we count on fingers, we wait on the phone telling us the results, about mom, the kittens whom we counted almost as our grandchildren, you know...

And yes, the phone comes evening of day 66.  The breeder asks for a new mating. He tells us it was a false pregnancy, and now she is in full heat again...   I didnt sayed what I had on the tongue, but managed to say Good bye, sir, and  slammed down the phone.

Afterwards he got other, more succesfull wifes, and his son sired he too some descendants....   :)  Now they are two happy senior citizens in their teens, retired since about 10 years.
