Hi everyone,

So my 5 month old kitten had her first heat a few weeks ago...it lasted about 5 days, just a lot of meowing/howeling, extremely affectionate (which says a LOT for her because she's completely attached to me as it is..lol), you know the deal, and it wasn't too bad. Well, 2.5 weeks later it seems like she's going through it AGAIN! I had no idea it could be this often, but after some research, it seems she can keep going through it every few weeks until she's spayed. My vet wouldn't spay her until she was 6 months (in 2 days we will be, thank the lord), and also she is very small for her age. I am making an appt for her tomorrow and I hope they can get her in really soon.

She is howeling/crying up a storm now, trilling CONSTANTLY (FYI- http://pets.thenest.com/mean-cat-trills-6918.html) rolling around everywhere, keeps 'assuming the mating position', and is clearly so uncomfortable. and I feel sooo bad for her. :( Are cats in pain when they are in heat? Or just uncomfortable? How bad is it? Is there ANYTHING I can do to make her feel better in the time being? :( I just hate to see her like this. Sometimes it seems when I pick her up and pet her it makes it worse because she makes more noise then it seems.  Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you!!

I don't think there is anything to be done but spaying.  I have read about breeders doing something with a pencil, you get the idea, to get one of their breeding cats to come out of heat but I think that's one for experienced breeder types.  I have read that kitties aren't in pain or even uncomfortable when in heat, they just appear that way to us.  She certainly is a precocious little kitty, very young for going through a second vocal heat this young.

My first cat was just like that (and there was a waiting list for spays :/). One thing that seemed to help a little was a hot pack on her abdomen. And sometimes putting her in a dark room with a heat pack would help her sleep for a bit. But only spaying will really take care of the problem. Hopefully your vet can get her in soon! :vibes:
