There is a big orange cat that I've seen ariund the neighbourhood a few times, it has recently come to my attention that he has a badly injured and infected eye. I see him passing by our house every now and then and the neighbours in front of us have tried to catch him a fee times and they would love to take him in. It has been snowing and really cold here lately and I would really like to catch him and get him to a vet asap, or at least put out some type of shelter for him to hide in from the cold, we have left our garage door cracked open but I don't think he has come in. Is there any good way to trap him? would it help to go to the shelter and let them know or ask if I can borrow a trap? I'm taking my own cat to the vet tuesday it's at a different city but the shelter is close so I was hoping I could do something for this poor feral while I'm there or bring him along to be seen..

If the injured kitty is not willing to enter your garage / your neighbour's home, I would go and try to get a trap. Given the fact it has a health problem, I think befriending it in order to catch it would take just too long.

Definitely try to trap the cat.  Get some really stinky wet food or tuna, line the trap with puppy pee pads or newspaper, set the trap and watch.
