Hello everyone! My kitty had his first experience with constipation. After X-rays and an enema he was sent home with a 5 day treatment course of Lactulose & laxatone. By the 3rd day he had explosive diarrhea & started to refuse the laxatone. So I stopped his treatment early. For many days he did not have a regular bowel movement. I tried pumpkin in his wet food & he produced a very small stool & then had no stool for 2 days following. So tried Miralax for 2 days & he produced a large healthy looking stool. Should I continue Miralax or wait to see if he can go on his own again? He's on a diet of EVO dry grain free & now being supplemented with an evening wet food meal. I believe his issue may have been caused by eating the neighbors Kit & Kaboodle cat food that is left outdoors. We are keeping him in for now so we can be sure he is going to the bathroom & only eating our food. Any input would be appreciated on if I should continue the Miralax. Thank you!

Have you put a call in to your vet about the Miralax?  They may be able to tell you over the phone.

I think you should really get him off the dry and keep him only eating wet.  The more the moisture the less chance of him becoming constipated again.  I went thru this with my cat and I only wish my vet had told me the problem of feeding dry food.

Wet catfood with a little water added to it is the best.  Fancy Feast pate with about a third of the can with water mix it up, Voila!

Thanks for all the replies! I just saw a list of Fancy Feast catfood that is low fiber & gluten free. I'm kind of surprised to see Fancy Feast as a recommended wet food. I have been adding spring water to the supplemental evening wet meal & the whole bunch seems to prefer it that way  My cats really turn their noses up at the healthy grain free wet food. I take my kitty cow in for his follow up on Wed, so I'll see if they want to put him on some type of permanent treatment. This was his first time having this problem! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that with a few changes this won't happen again. He's been perfect for the last 3 days!
