I brought home a new kitty from the shelter a few days ago, and had been putting canned food out for her. I thought maybe she wasn't eating because she was scared or still recovering from surgery. But then my husband suggested she might not be used to canned food. So I bought a bag of Purina Cat Chow, and she absolutely attacked it! Poor kitty, I feel bad that I hadn't thought to put dry out for her. She must have been so hungry. Anyway, I guess I'll let her eat the Cat Chow until she settles in here, before I try to change her to canned food.

Yes, many of the adults our rescue takes in start out on a lower-quality food. The Goodlife brand is the lowest quality I will go with as it is still grain-free (I am VERY particular about foods being GF.) Eventually, everyone ends up on a mixture of Nature's Variety/Pride by Instinct dry, an array of grain-free canned foods and the occasional Stella & Chewy's as a treat. (We have some very spoiled kitties in our rescue!)

Congrats on the new addition!

Doesn't Goodlife have rice in it? That would make it not grain-free.

@Tabbysia, yes, I stand corrected. It does contain brown rice. I've only used it once about 2 yrs ago, so my recollection obviously wasn't as good as I thought. =\
