My boy Taz who previously had a mild blockage about a year ago is having another episode. He is passing very bloody urine, but obviously he is not blocked, as he is still passing urine.

I started him on antibiotics as soon as I noticed it. Am giving him soupy food with extra water.

I did not see any crystals in his urine sample. I have a microscope and usually you can see crystals.. all I saw was lots of cells.

Other than watch and wait is there anything else I can do? I realize taking him to vet is ideal but I hate stressing him out further. Plus the last time I went all they did was determine he wasn't blocked, and gave me antibiotics to put him on.

He is passing urine frequently and using the litter box about once every two hours. As I said the urine is very bloody as it normally is when he has a flare up.

He doesn't seem distressed and purrs every time I pet him. Right now he is taking a nap. I'm really hoping he doesn't block after hours as last time it was $600.

What medication does your vet give a cat who is bleeding but isn't blocked? My vet usually just gives antibiotics and sends me home. I'm wondering if I should try a different vet?

Are there other medications we can try? Or do most vets just give antibiotics only?

You really need to get him to a vet ASAP this condition isn't something to take chances with. Mine never had crystals in his urine and still was in critical condition and had to be cathed. His bladder and urethra were so inflammed no pee couldn't exit out. So you kitty can get blocked up just from the inflammation, the crystals don't have to be present in the urine and not any indication he won't get on trouble. Go to another vet tomorrow and have them take a urine sample to find out is going on. It won't be $600 because there shouldn't be a reason to cath him that is what costs the money. If you get the proper meds in him now you will avoid the cost of having to cath him when he does get blocked and not put your cat in danger.
