Hi guys,

I'm probably over thinking this, but I guess I just need your input and confirmation...

I finally switched Nora to 100% canned diet a few weeks back. Yippee! It literally took months, and at times I didn't think it was going to work. Long story short, she went from free fed dry at the shelter, free fed dry at our home (new cat owner, didn't know any better), then timed dry meals (got smart and read some articles), onto timed dry and wet, then finally 100% canned. There are occasions when she gets picky about what she eats, so sometimes I sprinkle dry kibble on top as a topper (5-6 pieces) to get her eating.

Anyways, since the switch, I've noticed that Nora doesn't touch her water bowl, and the water level barely goes down anymore. I still clean and refill it with fresh water, but I wonder if she getting enough water/moisture through her canned food now? I also add water to some of the pates once they've been in the fridge.

She gets a rotation of: Halo, Weruva, Stella and Chewy's, Nature's Variety Instinct, Wellness, and Simply Norish (stews). All are grain free and almost fish free as her stomach can't tolerate a lot of seafood/fish proteins.

Thanks!

Yes, this is normal.  Your cat is getting enough water from the canned food.  My cat, who I switched to canned only, barely touches her water too.

My cats also don't drink water from water bowl after I switched to all wet food, but their pee amount increased. I also add water to canned food.

Same here.  My 2 kitties are on 100% wet and rarely do I see them at their water bowl.  One of them I never see and the other I will see him take a few licks every now and then.

It's exactly the same with our two cats. They eat a combination of wet and commercial raw foods.

I add bottled spring water to all canned every time to make soupy and my cats get all the liquid they need and drink very little water. Check the pee balls in litter box to make sure she is peeing.

I check her box everyday when I scoop, and her pee clumps are roughly the same. Usually 3-4 clumps, about the same size as when she was eating kibble/drinking from the water dish. Some days though, they're smaller clumps. I figure it depends on what I feed on which day.

Thanks for the reply.

In the wild Nora they get their fluids from live prey. I really water my 2 cats food down I get the big spring water bottle and fill up 2/3 of 6 oz cat food tin to get the juice and pour 1/2 on each of their food, then I break up the food so it absorbs all the water. One of my cats is a boy and so far so good no issues. Instead of unhealthy treats I give them a few bits of high grade kibble to satisfy their crunch cravings. Just a few though. A small bag lasts all year.
