As few of you may know, my youngest Lilly has this condition and has recently had her back left leg operated on. The surgery she had was RidgeStop. I am just wondering if anyone else has or ever had a cat with this condition? Would be nice to talk to someone who's cat had the same procedure done.

There have been several of us that have had kitties with luxating patellas. I don't have time to post the links; but, you can do a word search in the tool bar and pull these threads up. Just type "luxating patella."

I had a rescue that had double luxating patella surgery nearly 2 years ago. She is doing very well now, though does still have some slight weakness on her second surgery leg; but, it likely wouldn't be something noticeable to most people.

Thank you for the reply. I take it the procedure wasn't RidgeStop as i hear that's a pretty new way the vets offer now? I did do a quick search like you said, but was just wondering if anyone else's cat has had the same procedure as my Lilly :)

One of my cats, the kitten, has a luxating patella on his right hind leg. Hes only 10 months old, and more than likely is due to the fact that he had decreased muscle mass in that right rear due to a broken pelvis ( which is now healed after strict cage rest). I had restricted his activity for two weeks like the vet said to see if he stopped limping so much after I found out he had the luxating patella, and it hasn't bothered him since. He's gained more muscle mass now, and I haven't seen him limp or have any trouble with it so I haven't thought about surgery.

Hi there, just to give you an idea, the technique has been used mainly in dogs as there this condition is much more common, but quite a few cats as well had it done successfully. See links below:

Hope your Lilly does well :)
Thank you, yes RidgeStop is what Lilly had done, she has her off days here and there and she always sits with that leg hanging down now, the vet said this is normal. She may need the same doing on the other leg in the future bless her.

I think in these situations you just have to keep a close eye on them, never did I think her on and off limping would be down to something she was born with! I originally thought she'd pulled a muscle when I first took her to the vets
