today seems to have been a much less hectic and stressful day, thank goodness. computer issues are well under control now.
  • gave snick and jasper their breakfast, then made mine
  • defragged the laptop, again
  • gave snick her sub-q's, then gave both cats a snack
  • located the external hard drive, got it set up, not functioning properly and after careful investigation it's corrupted
  • got the usb card reader out and a 32 GB memory card in it, then moved the little that i wanted saved off of my computer with the failed hard disk to the memory card, ejected the device and stored it away, shut down the 'problem' computer
  • made my lunch
  • scooped the litter boxes and bundled up the trash
  • will run the washing machine shortly

Thanks, Karen! It was not easy getting them into their respective rooms this morning. Such meowing going on! Rick just texted me with a "I can't believe you left me alone to deal with this noise!" kind of thing.
He is taking off all the wooden trim around the windows now. He likes that part because he can be as destructive as he wants; it is being replaced. He's going to make window sills for the cats......they will be wide enough for kitty butts.
  • Rick's mom called yesterday. Jackie is on a special food for her kidneys and bladder and, for some reason, the food got sent to the vet instead of their house. I'm going in during my lunch break today to pick up the food and take it down to their house.
  • Errands: In addition to doing some errands for Rick's mother tonight, we have to do some banking, hit Lowes, Target, etc. And we have to get those things done tonight, because Rick's mother wants us to take her for new shoes on Saturday. She also wants to go out for breakfast, so we're leaving rather early tomorrow morning for some shopping.
  • The bedroom is a mess right now; we'll have to get that back in some semblance of order. The new windows will need to be stained and varnished, so that should be done this weekend. I did get the curtains washed and ironed last night.
  • I have to bake a lemonade cake tonight; we are supposed to have dinner with friends Saturday night and I won't have time to make the cake and get it frosted tomorrow. I'll bake the cake tonight and then frost it tomorrow morning when I get up to give the cats their breakfast.

The whole family came over for supper this evening. Me and the ex, son with his wife and 4 kids, daughter with her 3 kids, her husband was still at work, and my sister and her idiot husband. Would you believe I don't like him.
Daughter and Did cooked. Granddaughter prepared the salads, son mashed the potatoes. I ate.
Made plans with my granddaughter to go out Monday for a day of fun. This will cost me money!!!

We took Rick's mom out shopping yesterday (Saturday). It was tiring for all of us. She now uses a walker and she just barrels right on through everything and everybody. Rick finally had to tell her to stop, that she has to let others go by, that she can't just barrel that walker around the way she does. She almost crunched on Rick's foot several times, she came "this close" to my feet and I was wearing sandals. The lady in the shoe store had to get out of her way. We have to really work at trying to stay away from her. But she found two pairs of shoes that she liked and a nice wallet. We took her out for breakfast as she loves going out for a nice breakfast. I think she had a good time, but til we got her back home, she was so pooped, she said she was taking a nap. I think we could have used a nap, too.
We wanted to do some shopping for ourselves while we were out and about, but that didn't go very well. Maybe another time.

So today:
  • I am working on our third load of laundry right now and have one more load to do. Changed the bed sheets. Scooped out the boxes. All that good stuff.
  • A good vacuum about the house, maybe a quick Swiffer, and that's it.
  • Once all the laundry is finished, I'm going to work in the garden until it gets late enough that I can mow the yard without disturbing the neighbors. (It's Sunday, so I probably won't mow until early this afternoon. I've always felt that Sunday mornings should be relatively peaceful.)

My sister stopped off the other night. Somebody at her work had given her a gorgeous head of cabbage. She has no idea what to do with it, but didn't want to say no to the giver, so she took it....and promptly dropped it off at our house.

  • Making freezer cabbage tonight (it's basically a pickled cabbage that you can freeze) and will share with her. I'm going to keep some of the cabbage, though, for sauteed cabbage, maybe with our Sunday dinner.
  • Lowes and Target
  • Sanding the bedroom windows for staining tomorrow. Rick said that while we're at the bedroom windows, we might as do sand down the bay window in the living room and give that another coat of stain, too. The cats' claws have really done a number on that window already.

It's 36°C/97°F, so that's pretty much determining how much I do when.

Up at 4:00 a.m., watered the garden and greenhouse after a shower and breakfast.

Took the shelter dogs for walks starting at 6:00 a.m., fed and cleaned up after all the critters, gave meds.

Lunch for Mogli and me, soon to be followed by an afternoon nap!

  • I put the shredded zucchini and chopped onions together with the salt last night and plopped it in the fridge overnight. Once my jars and lids have been sanitized in the dishwasher this morning, I'll start putting the relish all together and getting the jars in the canner. I have no idea what it's going to taste like; I hope it will be good.
  • Those pineapple zucchini muffins that Rubysmama posted in the Gardening thread are calling my name. I'd like to make them this morning and throw them into the freezer. Checked the pantry and we do have a couple cans of crushed pineapple.
  • We had storms all night last night, so it will be a while til things dry enough outside that we can go out to do some yard work. Rick is going to take the recycling down to the center this morning and do some banking. Then he'll put the first coat of stain on the bedroom windows.
That's pretty much it. Depending on the weather, we'll go outside later on today. But this morning, it's just kind of in-the-house stuff.

  • dropped the computer off at the repair shop for diagnostics to be done
  • jaspurr saw one of the (two) vet's at our veterinary hospital, she checked his teeth -- some mild tartar, nothing else looked bad, and cat toothpaste/tooth brushing (that i'm already slowly introducing to jaspurr) was all our vet suggested. vet took blood and did the on-site fiv testing -- if i heard the message they left on my answering machine correctly, jaspurr does not have fiv........
the air conditioner in my living room is loud enough that i'm not able to hear the soft voice of the vet tech on my answering machine clearly, so will listen to it again later when i've turned the ac off.
  • a little shopping, and a stop at my bank

Glad Jaspurr is OK!

We worked outside pretty much all afternoon into the evening yesterday. Til I got my shower last night at 9, I was pooped and more than ready for bed.
  • Working on laundry this morning while Rick takes his mom to church
  • A quick vacuum and Swiffer about the house. I'd like to wipe the kitchen up a bit as I didn't get it done yesterday.
  • Mow the yard this afternoon. Boy, is it ever steamy this morning already. We can't even see "our" mountain off in the distance across the road; it is that humid today. Temps to be in the low 90s, so it's going to be a hot one.

I'm pooped this morning. We worked outside all weekend, weeding and mulching and then I mowed yard yesterday with push-mowing to trim around trees and such. We were both about half-dehydrated, I think, because we didn't drink enough in all that heat. So then last night, we spent all night drinking iced water. And I slept poorly last night; we had the fan on in the bedroom, but when a t-storm came through around 2:00 or so this morning, we had to turn the fan off and shut all the windows in the house. That lasted a good hour with the rain and all I did was toss and turn, until we could open the windows again. Then when I finally did drop off, all I did was dream. I've got about half a headache and I'm ready to go back to bed. But here I am....in my office. Yay....not.

So today:
  • Scooped the boxes this morning before hopping into the shower
  • Must grab a few groceries tonight, although if we don't get it done tonight, we can go tomorrow night. The cats have food and that's what's important.
And that might be it. I'm really hoping for an early night tonight.

  • I have a Planning Commission meeting tonight, but it shouldn't take too long, just to review and approve a minor subdivision plan. Then I can go home!
  • We didn't make it for groceries last night as Rick was still working on those windows. We wouldn't leave the house with the windows open. So it's grocery shopping tonight.
  • A quick vacuum about the house and scoop the boxes
  • Go up to the garden as there were some ears of corn that looked like they might be ready by tonight

today has been another in a string of busy days, which had not been planned to be so busy.

among the things i did today, i dealt with an important phone call, continued my early planning and notes for selling my house/buying another house, and will in just a few minutes run the washing machine.

Rick is down with a bad cold. He finally took a sick day today, so I know he's feeling bad. He says he might go into work for a half-day, to which I replied, "You know, you don't get a medal for going to work when you feel so crappy. All you do is make everybody else sick. Stay home. Stay in bed. Rest." Mollipop, Muffin, and Tabby are being good bedside nurses for him. When I left this morning, they were all cuddled up with him.

At work, the flooring people are finally over at our hallway at work and we're hoping they finally get the new floor down by the end of work today. Maint had to raise our cube walls, so now my door won't stay shut, it won't latch, it won't lock. And here I sit. Every time somebody walks by, they peek in, just to be nosy, I guess. I hate being on display. I finally disconnected my heater and started using that as a door stop.

Not doing much tonight. The standard litter box scoop and maybe one load of laundry. But that's probably it.

I couldn't handle my open door. I brought my laptop into work yesterday and today, so am sitting in the work cafe (and hanging out here at TCS). I don't have any work files on my laptop, so I can't really do any actual work. And they won't let us go home, unless we use our own time. So here I am.

Another busy day at the shelter, spent walking the dogs, feeding the cats, trying to clean one of the quarantine rooms with five kittens and their mom "helping", high-pressure cleaning some cages.
Came home and did some laundry, then cooked dinner.

though it's actually tomorrow already, i consider it still today until i've had my nights sleep. so today i made and baked enchiladas, washed the dishes, scooped the litter boxes, and took out the trash. then the cats and i relaxed, snick and jaspurr enjoying the fresh air and sunshine laying in the window sills while i watched tv for the rest of the afternoon and evening. it's been so hectic here lately that i'd hardly had time to think straight, so today was my reward for dealing with all the unexpected things that have come up over the last few weeks. i also did a little research online about common contingencies when buying/selling a house. always something that can use getting done......

Both Rick and I left work at noon yesterday, so we were able to get a nice head start to the weekend. I was able to get the yard mowed yesterday, vacuum the house, and clean the bathroom. Rick worked on mulching the front flowerbed.
  • Run some errands for us and for Rick's mom this morning. We need gas for the mowers as I still need to trim with the push-mower.
  • Finishing up mulching in the front flowerbed, then will go around to the end of the house and mulch that bed. There's not much in there, so that one should go a little easier.
  • Make more sweet zucchini relish. Make some macaroni salad for tonight's dinner. Make a pitcher of mint tea.
  • Pick the corn, the peppers, and the tomatoes. Any zucchini and yellow squash that's up there. There are some tomatoes that need to be picked. Get everything in the freezer. And then, after that's all done, then I'll clean the kitchen counters.
  • I should dust in the living room and kitchen and do the scooping thing. Might let the dusting go til tomorrow, while Rick takes his mom to church.
