Have not done much at all.. cannot contribute to this list..

I have been so sick with a severe sinus infection, possibly early pneumonia and an exacerbation of asthma..I am on my 3rd week of being sick. Started with a severe sore throat and fever of 101.7....doctor was concerned. I have had antibiotics, codeine cough meds and new asthma stuff....I came out of the drug store with a bagful of stuff....

I am much better, but still have not energy to clean..I still have a cough. I have gone thru 4 + boxes of tissues.

Artie tried to comfort me, but he was scared of my cough...he stayed in the same room with me, but not on my lap. When the coughing subsided a bit, he immediately jumped on me and cuddled...I did have to neglect him for a few days..

I mean I fed him, and tried to remember to scoop his box once a day....

Now I am able to brush him, but I still take a long nap each day..and do not have 'oomph' to do much. Food is just junk...

Eating a lot of english muffins for some reason..and diet decaf coke, ginger ale, tea with real local honey...and chips..the only time I want them is when I am sick...

Next week I should be much better and back at posting..

Artiemom, take care of yourself! Feel better soon.
  • While Rick takes his mom to church, I'm working on laundry, changing the bed sheets, vacuuming, and a quick Swiffer, litter box duty, and cleaning the bathroom. We were outside all day yesterday, so I have to concentrate on a bit of housework this morning.
  • We're going to have an early dinner (after Rick gets home from church), then it's up to the garden to plant corn. We also have some gorgeous sunflower seeds that we're going to plant there, too....they're a beautiful orange color. about 3 feet tall. Wonder if I can keep the birds away from sunflowers??
  • Work on coupons, grocery list, and menus for this coming week.
My poor hands are in terrible shape from yesterday's work. I did buy a nice pair of gardening gloves last night; hopefully they'll last longer than my last pair. My fingernails went through the tips in about a month. A nice hot shower and a manicure will hit the spot tonight.

@Artiemom -- i sure hope you're on the mend now.

today i had a few things to get done --
  • got the wood stove going for just one load of firewood, to take the chill of the house this morning
  • gave snick and jasper an early breakfast
  • started my day by reading a chapter of my kindle book on the computer, then conversed via email with a friend for a while
  • gave snick her sub-q's, then both cats got a little more wet food
  • made my breakfast
  • baked two peanut pies -- like pecan pies, only made with cocktail peanuts and peanut butter in with the light + dark corn syrups. and much less costly than buying pecans, which i don't care for anyway.
  • washed the dishes, scooped the litter boxes, took the trash out, and brought in the newspaper
  • adjusted my calendar -- i need to trim a little more firewood down to useable size for the wood stove, because we're forecast to have a day coming up shortly that will only get to a high of 57 degrees. i don't want snick to catch a chill.
  • worked on my next canned cat food order, and with june's budget (from which the money for it will come)
  • and i called the shelter (again), wanting to know their clinic dates/locations for may. i still don't have any answers and i know they book up for the months clinic dates extremely quickly. very annoying...will keep on it.

Thanks mickNsnicks2mom, boy that is tough to write! LOL

I am slowly improving. With allergy season, it is difficult.. Still coughing, having the post nasal drip, and extreme exhaustion. I saw my PCP again last week for a follow-up. She said it will take a while for me to feel normal..

Today, I got up early, Ran into Boston for an appointment, then went grocery shopping. I still do not feel like cooking. Living on english muffins, raisin bran cereal, and tea with honey.

I put everything away and was exhausted. Spoke to a friend who called while I was out, then Iaid down  on the coach, (still made up as a bed) and slept for a while.

Artie jumped on me after an hour.

I am slowly trying to pick up around here. Laundry piles everywhere...dirty on floor (separated) and clean in baskets.. Have to swiffer tomorrow and wash another load..nevermind dusting and changing sheet.. I get so winded and tired...it will get done.

Car needs an oil change this week.

Litter boxes need to be completely dumped and cleaned, along with bathrooms....so much to do..

Glad I have 2 of them for one cat. Artie has now decided to use one for poop and one for pee!! sweet boy...I keep scooping and add more litter as needed so it does not smell....

Thanks again for asking...

you can use my name if you want -- i'm jen.

i'm glad you're improving. that you're feeling like eating anything is good, i'd say. many times i'm too tired to eat dinner, and i end up eating a bowl of cereal with milk. breakfast cereal has vitamins and minerals in it, so i figure it's better than junk or nothing.

i've had both pneumonia and bronchitis. bronchitis as a young child, then pneumonia as an adult. i don't remember much about the bronchitis, except the rough coughing. the pneumonia was horrible. i couldn't lay flat in bed because every time i did i'd start coughing and couldn't stop until i was sitting upright again. fever, coughing, nausea, exhaustion, and little appetite.

it's best to do only what must be done, and not to push yourself too much...like you're doing -- doing too much too soon could cause a set back, or at least take longer for you to be feeling better.

Thanks Jen, The worst part of this recovery is the asthma issue also. Each time I get a cold, it usually affects the asthma, making me worse than normal people. I usually end up with bronchitis...I run from people with colds!! LOL

I woke up feeling good...hopefully this feeling will continue.

I just had some coffee with juice. I am going to hijack Artie, who is on the coach and brush him. He threw up a fur ball yesterday while I was napping. Of cours, it was on my bed! I was washing the quilt at 8pm last night!

After brushing him, I am planning on washing dishes, using the swiffer on the floors, going to bank and then possibly doing some more laundry.

It is a sunny, warm day today. Around 78 degrees. no clouds or wind. I live near the beach...maybe I will stop down there for an ice cream, if I feel up to it..

still not feeling like cooking or going out to eat...I have been grazing--eating a lot of small things, frequently......

Have been on the Raisin bran cereal kick also....

thanks, call me Cindy or Cyn

I'm glad you're feeling better today.

Rick is working a lot of OT lately. It's good because it will give him a bit of extra money for him when he goes to Oregon. While he's working tonight, I'll get dinner ready, and start the grill. He's done bowling now until fall, so it will seem strange to have him home on Thursday nights.

  • I have a load of laundry to do tonight
  • We're going to put up the rest of the tall fencing around the vegetable garden. We did get a bit of rain; it might be enough to help the corn germinate....can't have the bunnies eating our corn. I know they'll stay away from the onions.
And that might all we get done tonight. We're both pooped, so hopefully an early night will be in order.

First I'm going to the bank, then I need to bring my car in for Inspection, I don't know if your state still has this but in  NJ it is still mandatory to have your car inspected.

After that I am going to the library to pick up a few books.  It's a nice day out there today but I know it will get much hotter later.

Rick brought me into work as we had to take his truck down to the garage last night; his Check Engine Soon light came on, so it's best to get it checked out. The appt is for today, but we took it in last night and left it there. He was going to take Hannah and I was going to drive Clarence, but when he brings me into work so early, then I get out early. He can just pick me up on his way home from work. It works out better that way, even though I'm up early to get ready to leave when he leaves.

  • We'll have to check in at the garage to see what's wrong with his truck. Hopefully it's not something that will break the bank
  • Must grab a few groceries tonight. Salmon is on sale, so we'll pick up some pieces...some for this week and some for the freezer. I love grilled salmon. Chuck roast is on sale, too, for $2 off per pound, so I'm going to pick up a few roasts for the freezer. That's pretty much it, other than cat food and litter.
  • Scoop the boxes.

Rick left to bowl, so I'm on my own for the weekend.

  • Make some Rustic Rub.This is a recipe from Emeril Lagasse and I think you can buy the stuff at the store. But I'm not buying something I can easily make myself. And what you buy at the store probably has way, way more salt in it than what you'd make. Here's the recipe if anybody is interested:

8 Tablespoons Paprika (I use 2 Tbsp of Sharp Paprika, 2 Tbsp of Smoked Paprika and then 4 Tbsp of Hungarian Sweet Paprika
                      3 Tablespoons Cayenne Pepper
                      5 Tablespoons Ground Black Pepper
6 Tablespoons Garlic Powder (NOT garlic salt)
3 Tablespoons Onion Powder (NOT onion salt)
6 Tablespoons Salt (I use about 3-1/2 Tbsp)
                      2-1/2 Tablespoons Dried Oregano
                      2-1/2 Tablespoons Dried Thyme

Just mix it all together and use as you want. It makes pretty much a full pint and I just keep it in a canning jar in the pantry. He says it will last about 3 months, but I can get six months easy. I also share half of it with our son and he likes to use it on meat when he grills. I sprinkle it on beef especially, but also pork and chicken, too. I'll throw some in casseroles. I make some really good butter with it that we put on grilled corn on the cob and other vegetables.
  • Clean out the computer room. Just a good vacuuming and dusting more than anything, but I need to get my cookbook bookcase in some kind of order again. Right now, I have books strewn about everywhere back here.
  • Just some general straightening-up. A bit of vacuuming about the house and maybe a quick Swiffering in the living room. I cleaned the litter boxes really well this morning and also cleaned the kitchen counters. I'd like to vacuum and straighten out the bottom of the bathroom closet, too, this afternoon. And work on some kitchen cabinet cleaning.

I wanted to grate some horseradish today, but with the weather Rick didn't get the roots dug up. Maybe next weekend.
are they good? Don't chip after one shower! Here they cost me roughly $10 a bottle. Is that cheap or expensive?[/quote

I'm not mad about the China glaze. They're expensive here and I can get cheapo that don't chip so much

Went to Tel Aviv to see my sister who is here at the moment.
Had a good cry as I was feeling very down.
Once I'd dried up we went out for lunch. We do that every Wednesday when they come.
picked up a few bits and pieces for her. Requested and got a kiss from a lovely boxer. Dog, not fighter!
bought some food for the boys. Has anybody given their furbabies schesir tinned food. I also bought some American dry food called wild. .........
I've forgotten the name. Some treats and a toy.
Went back to my sister for strawberries and cream and then came home.
Pleasant busy apart from the weeps. All gone now.

Rick is putting the screens in the kitchen window and in the bay window in the living room before grabbing a quick shower. He's taking his mom to church this morning. While he's gone:
  • Working on laundry now...third load of four. Changed the bed sheets. I'm debating if I want to keep the flannel sheets off the bed now. I can still keep the electric blanket on until Memorial Day or so, in case it gets chilly at night again.
  • Need to bake some snickerdoodles. I made snickerdoodles one night last week, but my FIL was hungry for cookies, so we gave the cookies to Rick's parents. I have to get snickerdoodles baked for Rick as he's leaving Wednesday morning for Oregon and I know I won't have time to bake them at night after work. If I have time, he would like some chocolate cookies with peanut butter chips, too.
  • Hoping to get the yard mowed this afternoon
  • Plant veggies. Rick got the fence up yesterday. We also have some bulbs to plant in the front flower bed. And cannas....the cannas go the width of the pool fence at the east end.
Judy/Stewball:
  • I'm glad the weeps are gone now. I have days like that.
  • I pay around $7 - $8 or so for a bottle of China Glaze. Sometimes a local beauty supply store will sell them at Buy 2, Get 1 Free and I take advantage of the sales. I also like O.P.I. polish. And I like Zoya, too, but it's difficult to find locally.
  • You probably could store the Rustic Rub in the fridge. You can easily halve the ingredients, too, and make half the amount. I make the whole thing because I share it with our son. And it doesn't last long around here.
  • My way to relax is to flop down on the sofa with a couple good books, Mollipop, a bottle of Pepsi, and a bag of peanut M & Ms!
I don't do it often, but when I do, it's for the day. Sometimes I'll take a book to bed with me in the evening, but I might get a few pages read, if I'm lucky. Most of the time, Rick will come to bed and the book is laying on his side of the book with Molli and me sleeping soundly.

Thwveerps had been gone for so long it Brought the depression back for a time but all gone now.
I am very disappointed with China Glaze and O. P. I. They chipped so quickly. One of the China glaze had half missing on my thumb the same evening. I've got a cheapo polish on, the make I can't remember, I'll tell you tomorrow, that I put on on Friday. It's now Sunday night and there's no chips at all.
I'll get myself gathered to make the rub and give to my girls, daughter and DiL.

As usual I got up late. I go to sleep late. It's now 3.30am.
Did everything except scoop, the ex does that :-)
Had coffee with a slice of my hot milk cake. Still good.
At about 4pm I went to the mall and did some shopping. Just bits and pieces which included 2 short trousers for baby granddaughter. She's just turned one and last week I spent over $100 on lovely clothes for her.
Had something not very exciting to eat but also an ice cream in a cone. Then came home.

@Pam
is it easy to make snickerdoodles?

Snickerdoodles are a cookie. You make the dough. Instead of dropping the dough onto the cookie sheet with a spoon, you simply roll the dough into dough-balls with your hands, about an inch or so in diameter. Roll each ball into a mixture of cinnamon and sugar. Then place onto the cookie sheet and bake. The cookies will puff up at first, but then they flatten out. It's Rick's favorite cookie; it's also my niece's favorite cookie. And it's one of my FIL's favorite cookies, too. Snickerdoodles are popular in this family.

China Glaze tends to chip on me, too, but I deal with it because I love the colors. O.P.I, however, does not. It will last for quite a while. Sally Hansen does not chip on me either, unless I'm gardening without gloves.
  • Back to work today. I have a Planning Commission meeting tonight, then must stop off at MIL's house for her grocery list, unless Rick remembers to get it.
  • Go for a few groceries tonight. It's basically cat food and litter, and a few minor things
  • Weather permitting, do a bit of work outside. If it rains, and we are hoping that it does, then we'll have an early night.

Snickerdoodles are so good and are easy to make. It's basically a sugar cookie dough that is dipped into cinnamon sugar and baked. They are a soft cookie. One of my favorites too.

Day 2 of a headache....although it's not nearly as bad as it was yesterday. Til I got out of that planning commission meeting last night, it was splitting. We went for groceries, I made a pizza for dinner, helped Rick with some union stuff, and then I went to bed. No way did I get outside last night.
  • Do any wash that Rick needs for his trip (he's leaving tomorrow morning)
  • I should vacuum tonight, but I may put it off til the weekend
  • Scoop the boxes

i hope that headache passes soon, @Winchester.

today i'm starting out slow, like i've taken to doing. will get the few things needing doing done starting shortly.
  • gave snick and jasper their breakfast, then opened  a couple windows a bit to let some fresh air in
  • read a very nice short story from the book of short stories i started a few days ago
  • will give snick her sub-q's shortly
  • grab a container of pre-measured mashed bananas out of the freezer and put in the fridge to thaw, and move the 6 frozen boneless chicken breasts to the kitchen freezer
  • make my breakfast
  • pre-measure the dry ingredients for a batch of banana bread -- will bake the banana bread loaves tomorrow morning, since it's forecast to be quite cool
  • wash the dishes, scoop the litter boxes, take out the trash, and bring in the newspaper
  • will check online when the next (tuesday evening) local produce auction is scheduled for. i think they've started holding them weekly again, but will check to make sure
i'm thinking it's time for me to switch over to the every 4th day busy days again, for the warm weather months and into the fall. i'll go into my computer calendar and make the necessary changes today.
