My waist measurement had not gone down since Saturday and yesterday was Thursday. I have been so good with my nutrition and I have been doing high intensity cardio everyday. I started to go for a run and then I stopped. I needed a rest day. I was tired. It was also past the time I usually have dinner. The thought of an icecream popped into my head. I decided I would buy myself one after dinner. Whilst preparing dinner I looked at the cake my children had been eating and I thought. I'll just have one piece before dinner. At that moment I knew this was a binge about to happen. I would have eaten the 5 pieces of cake left before dinner, bought an icecream and then devoured anything else I could get my hands on after that. I didn't eat the cake. I ate my dinner and then read to the end of my book. This morning I was rewarded with a waist 1/2 a cm smaller.
I have learnt so much by being on this thread. Thankyou to you all for being here. Thankyou to Pat- you give excellent advice. A big hug to you all. I am going to reach my goal. I believe in myself now.
Thanks I couldn't have done it without you guys. :grphug:

Well done Tammat - way to kick the stinkin' thinkin - that nasty little whispering voice into submission!

My body is laughing at me this week.  After my new average on Monday, my weight went up to 161.9 for two days.  I knew better than to dive off, held on and had a new one day low the next day (Thursday) of 160.0.  I had the same weight again this morning.

Who knows when I'll see those darned 150s, but one thing I know.  I will!

ps not sure if I mentioned this anywhere on the site, but not only am I now off medication for hypertension (saw my cardiologist on Tuesday and he's very happy with my log of bps over the past month) but I've been taken off Xarelto (blood thinner with risks if taken long term) and switched to taking a baby aspirin a day instead.

Woot!

Way to go, Tammat and Pat! Tammat, you deserve a big
for sticking to your guns! Excellent job!

And Pat, that's simply wonderful about getting off those meds. That's something I was really looking forward to doing when I had lost all that weight many years ago. It didn't work for me, though. As soon as I went off my BP meds, my BP started creeping back up. Almost instantly, even with  keeping my weight down, watching my salt intake, and walking twice a day. The BP increased anyway and my doctor said I had to go back on the meds. I was heartbroken. I really wanted to ditch that stuff. I'm really happy that you were able to do so. Good for you!

I am sorry to hear that.  I have to say I don't trust that I'm really off - am checking my bp daily and will continue to for quite some time!
Just got part of my cholesterol results back.  After decreasing from 14 eggs a week to 2 to 3 and having vastly less fat per day, my total cholesterol went UP as did my LDL.  Fortunately, I have an incredible HDL, extremely low triglycerides and great ratios.  My cardiac risk assessment for the next 10 years has me at 1% (!).  I am still waiting for results of the test to check what kind (size) of LDL particles I have.  My strong suspicion is I have the fat, fluffy kind which is less of a concern than small, dense LDL particles.  The women on one side of my family are very long lived - despite having other various cardiac issues.  I hope I am right, that there is something protective in my genes, and that I too will live into my 90s :)

Monday morning here. I lost 1/2cm off my waist and 1/2cm off my thigh/ butt- problem area. I was hoping for much more of a difference than that after all my efforts. They went down though
Yesterday I was very tired and hungry. The binge thoughts reared their ugly head. I ate my lunch and they were still there so I had a nap and when I woke up they were gone.

I hope you all have successful weeks. We can do this.

I hopped on the body composition scales at my trainers today. My body fat has gone down and my muscle mass has gone up. That's what I'm aiming for. He tells me no more peanutbutter ::stomp:
That's ok. I'm doing whatever it takes.

You go, Tammat!

I lost 3.8 pounds since last Tuesday (which is when I weighed-in, forgot to do it last Monday) I would like to be down 10 pounds by February 1st, but we'll see.

As long as I don't do any binging, the weight comes off. You'd think I "get" that by now.

No nuts or just no nut butter?  Or just no peanut butter?  LOL...I prefer almond butter when it comes to butters.  Congrats though - you are doing it..reshaping your body, and I am jealous!  I have this second HUGE task ahead of me now.  To reshape what I found left after losing all this weight.  I am NOT happy.  I look boney in spots, and just flabby in others.  Not going to spend my 60s looking like this (I hit 60 this upcoming July).

I had a real turtle week - lost .11 of a pound.  My stubborn body is hanging out between 160.0 and 160+ all this past week (and two horrid days of 161.9).  I'm glad there was no gain, I'm grateful there was any loss but c'mon already.  I deserve a 159!

Best wishes to all this upcoming week.

To be frank (not that you asked) the last piece of the puzzle for you I think, is how to handle when you get a craving...either how to not get cravings or a strategy you can fall back on that works for you, when you do.  Congratulations on your loss and recommitting...well done!

Way to go Winchester!! That's a great loss :woohoo: back at ya ;)

Thanks you guys.
150s from now on Pat. You can do it.
I started body building for the reasons you mentioned. If I got lean enough to be happy with my thighs and butt then my upper body was boney and floppy. Now I still have the lower body problem (it has improved by a long margin ) but because I have begun to build my upper body it gives the illusion of a smaller waist and smaller lower body. My thighs used to be wider than my shoulders and back but now they are not. I had thought about giving it a go for a while and then I saw a female body builder interviewed on the TV one weekend. She looked amazing and she was in her 70s!!! I rang a personal trainer on the monday and started that week.
My programme is building muscle- usually 6 weeks. In that time I need to eat a surplus of calories so that my body has the energy to grow and then I have a weeks rest from the weights and do cardio to burn off the fat that comes with the extra calories. If I binge in those 6 weeks then I can't eat less to try and balance it out. If my body doesn't have the extra calories and say I've just worked out my legs then it will take protein from say my shoulders to build up my legs. That's no good!!! you probably already know all this but I just thought I'd explain anyway. This is why it's so important for me to stick to my nutrition plan. If I don't then I won't achieve my goals. It's the same for all of us only I want to see my weight go up on the scales but my waist measurement get smaller.
I'm pretty sure it was Pat who said " identify the triggers that cause you to binge" that helped me- saved me really. I can stop it now. I would like to have a small sugary treat once in a while still but I'm not sure how to have a little one?? I'll leave that until my thighs have transformed ;)
Oh and yes it's peanutbutter. I was eating that during my cardio fat burning week. That is apparently a no no. I honestly thought it was ok and I'm sorry I suggested it as a filler instead of a binge. The better alternative is a boiled egg, it's less fat and the energy lasts longer from it.
Oh so much to learn. Gone are the days of seeing food and eating it. :lol3:

I lost .75 pounds this week. I'm pretty frustrated as I was sure last week's gain was water weight - and on top of that, I stuck to my goals most days last week. I think I need a good couple of weeks of losses under my belt to get my mojo back. For now I am just going to hang on as much as I can.

Yesterday I was off work and stuck to my diet. It was hard. Rick had the Oreos and stuff in the cabinet and, honestly, I swear they call out to me. I stuck with some pretzels and mustard for a snack and my dinner was right around 600 calories. So I was fine, even though I was off work and around the house, which is when I tend to binge the worst. I tried to keep busy doing housework-type things, so my hands were always occupied. When the Oreo-craving got really bad, I took Mollipop and went to bed. Got up this morning and weighed myself....and gained .8 of a pound.
Now, I know that it's just one day and things could easily get back to normal in a couple days (and I'm also thinking some of this was salt from the pretzels as that does happen). I also know that I lost almost 4 pounds on top of losing 5 pounds the other week, so my body needs some re-adjustment. I'm Ok with this. Honest, I am. (But I really wish Rick wouldn't buy Oreos, even if they are on sale.)

Parsleysage, please hang in there. I understand your frustration, believe me, I do. Look at it this way....you are still losing, maybe not as much as you'd like to be, but a loss is a loss and is always better than a gain. Stick with it and next week? You'll have a good loss!

Pat, yeah, you do deserve a 159! And you can do it! When I was losing before, it seemed that I was stuck in the 160s forever. Forever! And then finally, the scales started to move downward again. But I remember it took a long time to get below that 160. Must be something about being right there. Keep going!

Tammat, what about oatmeal? Maybe a bowl of instant oatmeal? It lasts for a long time and can help to curb hunger. Plus, it has some milk for calcium.

You had a loss, and hopefully, you are feeling better being back on your plan.  If not, tweek it.  The way you eat, even when losing, shouldn't be torture..you should feel good and be able to enjoy your food (that's my philosophy!).

Making up a menu for a couple of days at a time helps me sometimes..lets me look forward to a meal I've planned.

Tammat,

I think the whole reshaping thing is fascinating and will be quite a test of character for me.  Incorporating regular exercise, is like not biting my fingernails, a goal I've failed at, numerous times!  The only thing I'm good at is regular hiking..that I stick to...lol.

Bravo to you, I admire what you are accomplishing.

That's great. It's not a big loss but it's still a loss. Be proud of yourself for sticking to your goals and eating healthy. You're awesome :D

Thanks Pat.

Good on you that lost!

No peanut butter? I know it is super caloric, but I do have a little peanut butter with an apple as a lunch some days.

I'm having a difficult time figuring out a very small lunch/snack. Lately I've been having a handful of nuts, some jerky or the apple and peanut butter I mentioned.

All nuts are on my reward meal only list...but a lower carb nut will be chosen for me to try as snacks once I'm on maintenance and allowed to add more carbs to my daily diet.

Karen for lunch how about a small bit of homemade soup? Or meat rollups - use homecooked protein - chicken or beef (or tuna salad) with a bit of cheese or a fresh scallion cut in half, bit of tomato, bit of mustard, roll up in a romaine leaf.  Makes a crunchy, tasty, can be low cal "sandwich" for a lunch.

Or...make little quiche muffins - easy to compose and make ahead, don't need any flours (I make a lovely crust for a full size quiche using melted butter with shredded fresh parmesan atop, baked until crispy and tan, then bake with your quiche filling.

The sky is the limit!  The soups I am thinking of are a chicken broth based creamy roasted cauliflower (with or without roasted leeks) - use some garlic and thyme for a lovely flavor and get out that stick blender you don't use often enough <G>.  Or a clear broth soup build with chicken broth,  bits of diced chicken, spinach, mushroom, bean sprouts - give it Asian flavors.

1 to 1.5 cups of a soup would be a filling but not heavy lunch.

There is always the simple salad.  Romaine, scallion, a cherry tomato, 1 hard boiled egg diced, small bit of added tuna or chicken, a homemade vinegrette (can't spell..sigh) or I like as a premade - Newman's Own Oilve Oil and Vinegar dressing.

I had to share!!!!!!!!!!!!  I woke early (horrid stress right now) and was 159.8!!  I then overslept and weighed an hour later than usual - and was 159.1.  I'm keeping that 159.1 for when I average next Monday :)

Just wanted to let you all know I FINALLY saw a 159!
