Just checking in.

It's been a rough couple of weeks at our home.  My BF's mom, who was extremely ill, had been put into the care of hospice and then, within a week, passed.

He lost his dad only 3 months ago so this has been an extremely difficult time for him.

I haven't been around a lot, and incredibly busy at work (December is crunch time for finances) so I haven't been logging in over a week.  I just am too busy to remember, however, trying my best to stay on track other than the few days I was out of town for the funeral.  That was tough - his family lives up in the middle of nowhere in upstate NY and there was nothing healthy around, anywhere.  Just did my best trying not to over eat the bad stuff.

I haven't lost anything since a couple of weeks ago, so at least there's that.

Good luck to everyone who manages to stay on track this month what with the holidays and more good food than necessary all around!

I went to my Mother in laws for dinner last night. A BBQ with salads. I ate plenty of meat with green salad. I left the bread, pasta salad and potato salad. Out came the CHEESECAKE. There were two types. Both were gourmet, looked absolutely fabulous. I didn't go there. After everyone had finished eating them I wrapped them up and put them in the fridge out of eyesight.
I did it people :D. My reward is a waist 1/2cm smaller this morning. I resisted cheesecake :banana1:

Good for you!
Thanks but I then ate badly the next night. :argh:

My weight was up 200gms this morning and my waist was the same. That's pretty much maintaining so I'm ok with that. I'm hungry today though :seesaw: will I give in or won't I? It drives me absolutely crazy.

I have had quite poor December so far, too much sweets, there was 3 days in a row that I could not eat anything else, because I ate so much sweets.

I did gain around 1kg from first half of the month, so far this month has been +7% of energy when it should be -20%, that should of be something like 0.5kg gain, but I have gained 1kg and then lost 3kg so weight is -2kg.

That can't be fat because of energy surplus, so it has to be liquids and muscle mass that has been lost.

I need to do better again, you see losing weight is not so difficult, you just have to keep energy balance bit negative, but loosing weight from fat is hard because protein intake must be increased and if you eat lot of carbohydrates (sweets) but nearly none of protein (food), then you loose weight from wrong parts.

Of course carbohydrates are needed too from food to keep fat burning processes going, but enough protein is important and those who move a lot need lot more protein, if there is deficit of protein in body, muscles are consumed to make up missing part.

So eating badly is bad for many reasons and also there are many ways to eat badly.

If I need to eat 4000kcal for heavy exercise day, that means I need 150 grams of protein, without busting my calorie balance, problem is to find protein source that does not have too much carbohydrates or fat within it and that does not have poor taste or high price tag.

There is lot less problem if I don't exercise, because for 2000kcal amount of protein needed is only 75 grams, it is that way connected to energy consumption, not to energy intake, but how much calories your body needs for a day. Also your muscle mass affects how much protein you really need, but what I have found out is that it is very difficult to have too much of protein, because carbohydrates and fat comes with protein so easily.

Protein itself has also energy, 4kcal / 1 gram of protein, same as carbohydrates, fat has 9kcal / 1 gram of fat, so getting food intake balanced is not so simple and I seem to be able to eat so poorly that knowing all this means absolutely nothing at all.

Waist has gone up about 1cm from last week, so despite scale shows less weight, waist measurement shows I have gained fat while loosing weight, which is perfectly possible to do and quite easy if one is not careful about what one eats.

Meat seems to be one of the best, low calories, low price, good taste, so 45grams of whole grain dough, 50grams of cheese and 170grams of meat makes a diet pizza, meat is lightest ingredient there, even one might think something else.

jtbo jtbo that is so true. It's another reason why it's so important for us to eat healthy foods.
My weight is up 1.4 kgs this week and my waist is 1 cm bigger. No excuses here. It was my daughters birthday on Monday so there was cake involved and Friday is Christmas Day. This week is not looking good either.
Good luck everybody. I hope you do better than me.

I ate poorly, but still got all time lowest weight, it is sometimes bit confusing.

So highest reading in this month has been 4.7kg (10.3 pounds) higher than this morning's all time low, it does not mean that my weight would of decreased that much, there is that 2kg of daily weight change depending how much liquids there is how much waste there is etc.

I was really happy to be less than 100kg some time ago, now it is 94kg, still 10kg to go for a weight that would be considered normal by weird tables health people are publishing.

All time highest during this weight loss project was 109,8kg from that it would be loss of 15.8kg (34.8 pounds), but again it is not quite like so, 2-4kg at least less weight loss might be more real figure.

I have not been able to keep eating properly though and that has made me loose less fat, waist is down only 12cm, of course that is a loss too, I need to get smaller underwear soon because most of mine are from time when I weight 120-130kg, they are quite bit loose already.

Still 5 months to go until I should start to see some signs of abs, but I really need to force myself to eat better.

No matter how much weight you have, it will come down, no matter if you fail here and there, just keep at it and in long term results will come.
