Bullet - Laurell K. Hamilton (part of the Anita Blake, Vampire Executioner series)

That's the only library book on my Nook right now. I have five books on hold and I'm next in the lists for four of them, so they'll be coming in soon.

I'm reading the 5th book in the Game of Thrones series; trying to make it last until the next one is released.  Also, re-reading Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn, author of Gone Girl.  Plus a few non-fiction reference books.  I keep a lot of books going at one time; I never know what I will be in the mood for.

I like Harlan Coben.  I've read a few of his books.  One of the reasons I like him becuase he writes with an unmistakble male voice.  I don't know exactly how to word this, but he writes how a man thinks.  He's true to himself.

I finished the book last night. I like his books too. I find him very easy reading and you get into the book from the first page.

I've almost lost track since I last posted, but went through several of Willow Rose's books - the first three of her Rebekka Franck series, and the first six of the Emma Frost mysteries. Three cat mysteries - The Cats that Told a Fortune and The Cats that Played the Market by Karen Ann Golden, and A Spirited Tail by Leighann Dobbs.

Also a few nonfiction books: The Nazi Officer's Wife: How One Jewish Woman Survived the Holocaust by Edith H. Beer, Deliver Us: Three Decades of Murder and Redemption in the Infamous I-45/ Texas Killing Fields by Kathryn Casey, The FBI Killer by Aphrodite Jones, When Nashville Bled: The untold stories of serial killer Paul Dennis Reid by Judith Yates,
The Vampire Next Door: The True Story of the Vampire Rapist by J.T. Hunter, and currently Tortured Minds: Pennsylvania's Most Bizarre--But Forgotten--Murders by Tammy Mal.

I read this a good 50+ years ago and decided to read it again.

That's not possible (Game of Thrones), since GRRM releases them so infrequently. I've ended up re-reading the whole series each time a new one comes out.  Very annoying.  I figure I'll never live long enough to see the end of the stupid series (or he won't live long enough to finish it).

There's lots of free ones out there. Some are good, some not so good. But when they're free, if you don't like it just delete and go on to the next one. I almost never pay for books.

Kindle is the most popular "ereader".  I have the Paperwhite version, very small (spread your hand open, that's about the size of it).  It can hold thousands of books.  You download them either directly from the device or from the Amazon website.  I had never really used one before until now and let me tell you, it DOES make reading much easier.  In recent years I had stopped reading because it was too hard on my eyes even with glasses; I'd wind up getting tired quickly.  I used to eat books, as my mom would say and I went down to maybe one or two a year.

Unfortunately, any paper books you have will have to remain on a shelf.  If you buy a book through Amazon, however, if it's in their Kindle catalog you can get it for a very low price.  I have hundreds of books and well, oh well I guess.  I've read all of them so no matter to me.  From this point onward, as long as there are no color photos in a book, I'll stick to the Kindle version, which is again slightly less cost than a hardcover.

BTW it's as easy to read on it as people say.  I nearly finished my first book in one day (I do read fast).  You won't know who this is, but others might; I got Kim Gordon's autobiography "Girl In The Band".  Great read for those of us who are into a certain genre of rock and roll music, and specifically those who know the band Sonic Youth :)

The Good Earth is not a quick read like colben which can be read in a day. This'll take time to read.

There are several versions.  I bought the Paperwhite.  I think it was about $130.  You can get it for a lot less if you allow ads to appear which are fairly innocuous.

Only available via Amazon store.

Kindle is the first name that comes to my mind when I think e-readers, but I ended up not getting a Kindle because Kindles are not compatible with borrowing e-books from the public library.   Therefore, I bought a Kobo.

Since January I have have borrowed several books from the library.   The most recent/popular books have long waiting lists. For example I've been on hold for "The Girl on the Train" since Feb 16 and am still # 65 on 36 copies after starting out at # 185 (there are now 269 people waiting), but there's plenty of other books to read, so I don't mind waiting.

To borrow books from the library you have to download "Adobe Digital Editions" and your e-reader software to your computer. Then run the program to link your e-reader to your computer.  Then you can download books (files) from the library. And somehow it knows how long you have borrowed the book. I can borrow up to 21 days - after which it will expire and disappear from my computer/e-reader.

BTW, you can simply borrow library books and read them on your computer, but since I have a desktop, that isn't very convenient. You can also download books from Amazon (free ones and the $ ones) and read them on your computer (you need to download a program), but they aren't compatible with most e-readers.

Currently I'm reading "Shopaholic Takes Manhattan" from the "Shopaholic" series.

I'm reading "One Of Your Own". It's a biography about Myra Hindley one of the Moors murderers. Bits about Ian Brady in it also. It's really good even if the subject matter is not :)
