You all make me feel so lazy!
I miss the days when I could be more active. Good work everyone

I'm sure you could have run rings around me when you were you were in better health. And you take care of Collie! I was a pony slave at my local riding school for 6 years, I know how much hard work that is.

I might have a day off from exercise today, there is so much cleaning that needs to be done and I have to start work a couple of hours earlier than I usually do.

I didn't do my legs Sunday. I was too tired. Today I did my shoulders and back. I'm getting better at working my shoulders.

Great work everybody
Enjoy your nice weather. It was rainy here today but not too cold.

Thanks Norachan Norachan I just get frustrated sometimes.

tammat tammat If you don't deserve a day off, I don't know who does :lol3: I get tired just reading about all the stuff you do :worship: - its no wonder you get too tired sometimes!

Winchester Winchester I bet the garden looks great after all your hard work :D

You all motivate me so much to keep trying. I'm in awe of what you're all able to accomplish  Most days, the only way I can do any exercise is to rest or sleep for most of the day :anon: Not what's intended, I'm sure, but that's how it is ;)

Mucked out Collie etc etc today. Was going to ride, but since the wind was blowing wheelbarrows across the yard (not to mention nearly being blown down myself) I figured it wouldn't be the most sensible choice I could make. Yesterday I opted for digging out the stable, and boy did it need it. At least I don't have to do it again for a while :D

Columbine Columbine I too sometimes have to take a nap before I exercise. I couldn't do it otherwise.
My thermal socks came today and it's forecast for rain and hail tomorrow so I'll be trying them out. They have this super soft lining. I swear it's just like the soft fur on a cats tummy :rub:
Today I did my biceps and triceps by myself. It rained pretty hard and it got very noisy in the tin shed!!!! :lol3:
Then I refueled and did my chest with Rohan. I did chest press 8 reps, 10 sec rest and straight into push ups- 40 sec time under tension. I min rest x6 sets. Then the same again for incline chest press. It was hard but fun to do something different. I'm looking forward to bed time

Bad Pam....Nothing this morning. I've had a bad headache and went to be early last night. Then we had t-storms around 1:00 this morning, so I was up checking open windows to make sure it wasn't raining through. Fell back asleep around 2:30. When Rick got up at 4:45, I just said, "No, leave me alone. I'm staying in bed." And promptly went back to sleep. Depending on how my headache is, I may hit the treadmill tonight.

Oh wow Norachan Norachan Beautiful horses, especially Ranmaru :heart3: :D
That ride sounds amazing. I bet you have such beautiful hacking around there. I really miss the woodland trails I used to ride on (have since moved yards...the stables etc are tons better, and there's a farm ride that takes about 1hr with zero roadwork, but we've got the A1 on one side and a new motorway being built the other now :bawling: ). I hear you on the in season mare issue...A new boy is in quarantine a short distance from Collie's field, and all the mares are in season. Collie's a little tart at the best of times (Bon, my old TB, taught her all she knew. Bon had had a foal when she was younger, so knew exactly what it was all about :lol3: ) Off topic a minute, have you read Enlightened Equitation by Heather Moffett? Constant leg work really isn't necessary if you've got your seat and weight right (sorry, I've been interested in natural horsemanship and classical equitation for some years now, and I'm ever so slightly evangelical on the subject ;) ) *shutting up now*

Anyway...mucked out etc etc today. Didn't manage to ride, but I have to work Collie one way or another tomorrow...all the spring grass is affecting her waistline :lol3:

:hugs: Winchester Winchester I hope you feel better soon.

Thanks, Columbine.

I did get in 3.5 miles on the treadmill tonight. They were rough miles. Long miles. I thought maybe the odometer thingy on the treadmill was broken as it took forever.
 But I finally got there.

Norachan, those horses are gorgeous!

Tammat, does your shed get warm in the summer. I would think it would get very hot, especially doing your exercises there. And how is it in the winter?

Great job everybody!

Hope you're feeling better today Pam.

Mucked out Collie etc, then prepared to ride. First, I had to spend 20 mins in the stable with her trying to convince her that her bridle wasn't an evil pony-eating machine. Then I got on and went up the fields. Saw the diggers were hard at work still, so turned back. Halfway back I met one of Collie's fieldmates going out. Decided to tag along. Dad walked up to do the first (chained and padlocked) farm gate. Asked him to tighten my girth (if I do it mounted the saddle goes sideways  ). Collie jumps away like he's trying to kill her. Decide taking her for a walk around the field would be safer. She does fantastic shoulder in all past the diggers with her eyes popping out of her head. (I realise that if I'd been on her back I'd most likely ended up in the next county!). Walking the field is hard work because the grass is calf high. Get back on when I come out of the field. Start to walk back to the yard. By the time I hit the yard she's trotting as fast as possible and totally ignoring me. Nearly run someone over. Collie grinds to a halt at her stable door. I'm determined not to end the ride with her being a little **** so head towards the drive. Madam has other ideas. On the 10th attempt we make it to the drive. Turn round and go back to the stable at a nice, controlled walk. Get off and remove saddle. Take her into stable and start to take bridle off. She panics again and is convinced the bridle - monster is back. Resist temptation to kill pony. Whole process (from first mounting) takes around 45 mins. :thud:

Go home, crying. God, I miss Thoroughbreds.

Hi everyone

I don't know exactly how this thread works, but I'm trying to get more exercise in as well.

My goal is to walk as many paces as I can. I keep count with my trusty Nintendo 3DS (no promotional intent).

These are the latest counts:

Tuesday - 3927

Monday - 5235

Sunday - 295 ( On the weekends when I feel lazy to carry it around in my pajamas so a lot of the steps are not counted)

Saturday - 2615

Today - I've done 1,173 paces and it's 11:21 am. My goal for today is 4K paces.

I know it's very little, but I have a full time job (11 hrs a day with a 45 min lunch inside the facilities) so I try to get in some walking after work by roaming around a mall, looking at fabric, beauty products and clothes at the stores, etc.

I am saving up for a car to get into a gym. My neighbourhood is not that nice so walking or running around is not an option.

Congratulations to everyone on working so hard! Keep up the great work!

Welcome Majiksgirl :wavey: keep up the good work

I love the pics Norachan and I love the pony stories from both you and Columbine :lol3: how long do they stay in season?

Well done Winchester. Hope your headache is better now. The shed will be shockingly hot in summer. I'll have to use a fan. It's a double garage with big slider doors so I can open up half one end. It's great actually to get the fresh air. I haven't found it too cold. Once I do a few warm up exercises Im usually right.

Yesterday I did abs and legs. Oh my goodness legs are hard work. I had a new 1 min finisher exercise to try. You squat up onto a box and down again in a low squat. I used the back door step. At first I thought it was pretty easy and then IT WAS NOT EASY !!!! :lol3: Needless to say I didn't manage a minute. That's something new to work towards :D

Nice to have you with us @MagiksGirl

@Columbine  Thanks for the tip, I checked out  Heather Moffett's book. It looks really good, you can tell the horses are so much happier in the "after" pictures. And those saddles! They look so comfortable. One of my main difficulties is that I was taught to ride by some very strict British riding teachers, who were always telling us to sit down in our seats, and now I'm trying to do that on a Japanese saddle. The saddles here aren't quite the same as Mongolian ones, but they're similar. You sit to walk and trot and stand up to canter, balancing on the balls of your feet and taking your weight through your knees. I don't really feel in control like that so I try to sit to canter, but I miss those soft British saddles.

Sorry to hear that Collie is being such a little madam.

@Tammat  Mares are usually in season every 20 days between spring and autumn, but some of them are a lot more stroppy about it than others.
Your shed sounds like it could double as a sauna in the summer. Have you though of doing hot yoga?

I did an hour of gentle yoga yesterday and 90 minutes of slightly harder yoga today. My legs are still wondering what's happened to them after Tuesdays ride.

Welcome, Magiksgirl! And well done with your steps!

Tammat, you rock. You just rock. I need to have you as my next-door neighbor.

Norachan, good work with your yoga.

1.5 miles on the treadmill this morning. It didn't really start to get light outside until a little after 5:30 and I wasn't going to the basement until it was light outside. I'm a coward when it comes to the darkness.

3.5 miles walking today during lunch.

Hi magiksgirl magiksgirl :wavey: Good to have you join us. You're doing well. I joined because I was having trouble exercising too - this support group really helps.

Norachan Norachan I was taught by strict, old style BHS instructors too - some of them had even done Prix St George and Grand Prix dressage! I discoved Natural horsemanship and Classical equitation after getting Collie as a yearling. I'd been intersted before that, but had never gone fully down that path.

I just Googled japanese saddles. They remind me of western saddles, but less padded. Yeah, Heather's saddles are great...so comfy and they really help you to sit right. The problem is that, being treeless, they're not as stable as conventional saddles. I broke Collie in using a Barefoot treeless saddle - and she throws a mega tantrum if I attempt to fit her with a conventional treed saddle  It's much better for the horse to be in one of Heather's saddles, but you really do have to be sure of your balance. On Collie's barrel-like body the slightest weight shift sends the saddle sideways! Most of the time, I don't even dare do up her girth while mounted  That's why I get so wary out hacking. Collie's 10 now (if memory serves ). I spent the first 8 years od riding her coming off every time she spooked/bolted because it would send the saddle way over to one side...I'd stick on until I was almost parallel with the ground, but then gravity would take over :thud: I've more or less fixed the issue now by using two different anti slip pads, but it's knocked a lot of my confidence with her - especially since the fibromyalgia hit and it takes ages to recover from a fall. Cracking my ribs when she threw me last summer didn't help either :sigh: I'm fine doing groundwork, and I'm fine on any other horse/pony...its just a mental block with Collie. It doesn't help that she's a very challenging pony to ride...to the point where my instructor regularly says that if I can ride Collie I'll be capable of riding any other horse/pony!

:sorry: everyone for going off topic at such length. I'm just feeling down and despairing at the moment - especially when I see everyone else at the yard getting on with things (even if I can see 1001 flaws in their riding and I hate seeing the teqniques they're using...)

*deep breath* Ok, back to topic.

Will be mucking out etc today. I've got a Bowen Therapy in 45 mins,so I don't know how I'll feel after. May lunge Collie, or may be too tired - especially that today's our day for the wonderful job of field clearing/poo picking. Don't think I'm in the right mindset to ride today.

Everyone's doing great  Keep up the good work :D

I think we should all move to the same street  I love hearing about the horses. I'm not a big fan of the dark either Winchester. I did my back and shoulders with Rohan today. I did the same as the other day but with 6 sets only. 8 reps of shoulder press, 10 sec rest then 40 secs lateral raises non stop 40 secs. I min rest x 6 sets and then the same using lat pull down with chin ups. I still have to do my triceps. I really loved it. It got my muscles burning in a short amount of time.
Keep going everybody:sheep:

Wow, good job everybody! Sounds like you guys are doing really well at keeping active!

About 5 years ago I gained 80 lbs in one year (my doc changed my sleeping pill and my appetite skyrocketed) and I'm only 5'0" so that was a huge gain for me. It took 3 years but I eventually lost all that weight. What really kept me motivated and interested in exercise was mixing up my routine. I did Zumba, Pilates, aqua aerobics, yoga, hot yoga, running, free weights and I took dance classes. Unfortunately since then I've been diagnosed with arthritis and bursitis so I can't work out like I used to but luckily I've been able to stay in shape with my busy 10 hour work days and keeping a close eye on my diet. I'm so proud of you guys for working so hard at it! Keep it up!
