Hi everyone. Happy New Years !!
My boy Samson was diagnosed with having crystals in his urine. He was put on a special diet, painkillers, and antibiotics. He has been able to get some urine out the past 2 days. Tonight I noticed blood in his urine. Is this common for cats with this disorder? He still sits in his litter for long amount of time and is frequently urinating and pooping around the house. I know it takes time to get over the problem, my vet said ias long as urine is coming out its not as life threatening compared to no urine at all. Any suggestions from people who have been through this before. He's on royal canin urinary s/o. Amoxicillin, anti-depressant, and some sort of narcotic. Please help this worried father

Hi @samsons  dad and welcome to TCS.

Blood in the urine is consistent with a urinary tract infection and crystals and should resolve with treatment however if this is a new development I would call your vet when they are next open and report this and ask for feedback.  So long as he is urinating it is not an emergency, but if he becomes blocked then its 911.

Also looks like he has a lot of inflammation in his bladder he may need and anti inflammatory medication if he can be on this type medication.

The doctor said the anti depressants works as a anti inflammatory drug as well. I guess... He is doing really well socially playful, active. I would say he is peeing the equivalent to 1.5 bladder full ever 24 hrs. I think I'm am going to let it run its course, he is on the correct diet/drug regiment and time will tell. He does also actively drinks water but only out of the running sink which some times I leave running at a trickle when I leave the house. I know it's wasteful but I want him to have a water supply.
