Hi there,
I'm a new cat owner and have 5 days ago just had my two beautiful babies arrive at home.
The little boy Oscar was fine on the first day but now i think he's unwell.
So a couple of days ago he had vomiting (a few times a day), diarrhea, and wasn't eatting. He's definitely purked up again though as hes now eatting, has soft poo and is only vomiting once a day before we get up. Ive spoken to the local vet but they've just said to keep an eye on him.

I'm not sure what to do as hes full of beans and chasing his sister round but obviously want to get all of this under control.

Thanks heaps
Emma

It may be just that his system is adjusting to new food, or it could be something in the environment.  What are you feeding?  Do you have any plants he could have gotten into?  What kind of cleaners do you use on the floor?

As long as he is still active and interested in food, your vet is probably right in taking a wait and see approach.  But you can look around at the possible variables... remember, kittens are curious and will find a way to get into things.

Sometimes kitten food is too rich for them and they may have this problem. My first kitten had diarrhea for several months before it was determined he needed to be switched to adult food. It solved the problem. If he continues to have diarrhea you may want to talk to your vet about switching. This of course if things like worms etc have been ruled out as causes.

Thanks for the reply Furmonster Mom.

We're feeding them exactly the same as the breeder (she even sent us down the right food to us) so we have kept that the same.

Will just keep an eye on him and go from there.
Thanks again

I rescued two littermates who struggled with similar issues, and despite two different vet clinics and two weeks of hospitalization and every test imaginable could not find a cause. Their recommendation was euthanasia.

We solved their issues with Evo Venison canned food to which I aded Dr. Mercola digestive enzyme powder, and pet probiotic powder. They also are eating Orijen Dry Regional Red meat food.

The adding of probiotics seems to help when switching food for us, and the digestive enzymes made all the difference, as they are thriving now. Hope this might help.

I would try him on baby food for a couple of days, nixed with some rice, if he will eat that.

Part of it may just be stress. Kittens are so prone to getting sick from stress, and he has recently moved in with you.i

I hope this finds him better!
