Hello, my baby Orion is two years old, he's been in and out of the vet for the last week and it's been crazy. I'm working with him so that he recovers from his blockage but I've come at a strange point in this process. Orion is very uncomfortable peeing standing up now, he is peeing the best while laying on his side.. And this bothers me only because he ends up going as much as a small child, on my bed. We can wash the sheets and have a plastic protector under them already, and really it's just a bed, we can always figure a way to wash it in the end... I'm just curious to why he might be doing this.

Is he leaking urine? How much prazosin is he on? Also his pain meds may also be insufficient to get him to have the courage to go. My cat specialist told me that they are smart and now associate urinating with pain so they want to avoid doing it which results in hesitation. They are not blocked they just want to avoid going which I would think meaning peeing laying down becuase there is no pressure on the urethra.. It's good he is peeing but looks like he is scared. To be on the safe side this really is something your vet needs to be consulted on. If the vet says its normal for him to do what he is doing now and he is not blocked then it's purely psychological at this point. I'd push the vet for more pain meds to get him over the fear and look into the prazosin dosage being adjusted.

He goes in the box quite frequently, but goes best on his side, he is on 1/4 tablet of diazepam every 12 hours and .4 ml of Buprenorphine every 6-8 hours. His antibiotic is 1.2 ml of orbifloxacin once daily. It is a dripping kind of urination when he is on the bed, but he goes so much.

His blockage occurred on the 12-24, he spent 3 days in a vet hospital, came home early on the 27. We noticed his paw was enlarged (which has decreased a lot) and rushed him back up there, they gave us clavamox which caused him to get diarrhea on the 29th. we've taken him off of it and hes getting a bit better. Yesterday we were afraid he had blocked again so we rushed him to the vet and lucky it was just his bladder needing to be expressed, we were worried because he had gone very little inside of the boxes from the night before. We noticed him peeing was easier his side this morning and am just really curious about it. I will be calling the vet in a few to see what that could mean.

He should be on a bladder relaxer prazosin this is standard blockage treatment. Is he on that? because he needs it to get him back to going and preventing his bladder from filling up again.

No He is not on Prazosin. I was looking back over all of the paperwork they had given me and they didn't give me a medicine called Phenoxybenazime. I was just looking this up and it seems that Prazosin and Phenoxybenazime have basically the same effect. According to my vet who I just called they said he doesn't need that because he is going so freely on his own. Using the Phenoxybenazime would just allow him to pee more.

I'm surprised your vet said he didn't need the relaxer. He's peeing laying down for a reason. What did your vet say about this issue? I'm curious as to the solution suggested for this it can't be healthy for him to keep peeing like that.

All she basically said to the assistant was that it would clear itself up over time... :/
