Hi all, I adopted 2 cats about 2 years ago and I am now looking to re-home them in the Chicago area.  I got them as company for my wife who is from abroad, but it has not worked out and it is leading to marital issues.  I have tried taking them back to the shelter I got them from numerous times, but I just can't bring myself to do it.  I really want to find them a good home so if anyone could help me in my search I would be very grateful!

Thank you!

I am so sorry you are needing to rehome your cats.  First off, what are the problems the cats are causing.  We might be able to help you here.  Such as are the cats spayed/neutered, do you have litter box issues, behavior problems, etc...

If you must find a home for them, try asking all of your friends, post on facebook, ask your vet to post a sign. I hope you are able to find them a loving home or get some help with the cats.

I know someone there who'd love to have them, but they can't in the apartment they have now. If anything changes ( soon) will let you know. Bless you for not dumping them at H.S. You might want to see if you can list them with Petfinder, they do a very good job from what I've heard. I didn't get a good look, but if they are long-haired Maine Coon type, there is also a national group called Maine Coon Rescue who may be able to help you.
Good Luck!

The cats do not have any abnormal behavioral problems that I can see.  My wife simply does not like all the hair and the fact that occasionally they will scratch our furniture.  We have plenty of scratching posts and cat items from PetSmart, but it hasn't convinced her to keep them.  They are spayed/neutered, short-hair and they have really good personalities.  Very friendly and active, both with us and each other.  My wife is very stressed because she is from another country so daily living is already hard enough for her with culture shock etc...  The cats just add to that and it causes her to get very upset.  As for advertising, do you know of any other websites I might be able to use?  I have tried all my friends and family, but no one is able to take them and I do not use facebook.

Thank you for all the help!

ConiKat, thank you for the advice on using Petfinder.  I will take a look and see what I can do.  They are normal tabby cats so I don't think the Maine Coon Rescue will help me.  If you hear any changes from your friend, please let me know.  I am trying to be very thorough and careful when it comes to giving them to someone else, so my search will no doubt take some time.  Thanks again for your reply!
