Hi guys, my cat has been in several fights with another cat just down the road. He is messing loads of fur and lately he has become twitchy in his sleep, I know this is not normal for him as he has lived with me for quite some time now. His ears, eyes and teeth have no sign of damage but in the patches where he has lost fur I have noticed that it is sticky and small lumps have formed.

I really don't know what to do now because I try to keep him in but he is more of an outdoor cat.....

I have not noticed any behavioural changes in him so I don't think his head is injured at all. PLEASE HELP!

You can convert him to an inside cat if you wanted to, he will yowl and complain but you should should stick to your guns. No he is getting into fights it has become a must. If he is not neutered get that done. The wet spots on his fur are probably from bite wounds that are abcessing and draining only a little bit. I would be surprised if they weren't infected. He does need a vet visit to test for anything he has picked up from these fights mainly FIV and probably antibiotics. In the meantime you will need to look for the scab on each if these lumps, remove the scab so the lumps can drain. There is probably pus underneath and it won't be pleasant draining them. That alone will convince you he needs to stay inside. He is probably twitching dreaming about these fights he has gotten into I doubt that is your biggest concern but only a vet can really confirm that.

Since you didn't say that you're seeing fresh blood, I would guess the lumps are from older bites/wounds that got infected.

Growing up we had an indoor/outdoor cat that would get in fights a lot.  It was important to treat the open cuts/bites right a way -- and we could actually treat the minor ones at home.  But for an infected wound, you'll need to see a vet.

Thanks for the help guys, I am going to try and keep him in no matter what. I will soon buy a new cat carrier to take him back up to the vets, the hair loss is getting alot worse.
