hello everyone,

I have two cats, one of them is pooping standing up and grimes itself. So I have to wash dirt constantly and I am really tired of doing that specially that my cat hates water so much. I desperately need your help or someone who faced the same problem who could tell me what to do.

thank you in advance

Hi and welcome to TCS!

You mean he's standing up on 2 legs when he poops?

- In the litter box?

- Has he always done this?

- Is his poop normal?

- Describe his box, litter and location.

- When did he last see a vet?

Thanks

HI and thank you for answering , well yes he poops 2 legs up. and yes in the litter box yes he has been doing this for quite some time , since I adopted him which it was 2 months ago. last time at the vet was 2 weeks ago. the litter box is a round one with high edges. the litter box is in a covered backyard. and for information the other cat poops correctly. thank you in advance :)

Thank you for that.  I'm trying to get a clear picture and this helped.  But what i don't quite understand is why he is getting the poop on himself.

- Why doesn't it just drop into the box?

- Where are his front legs while he's pooping? Are they on the rim of the box? Or on something else?

- Is the poop ending up on his butt? Or on his rear legs/paws?

- And his stools are normal, well shaped, not diarrhea, correct?

Can you try adding a 2nd litterbox? How often do you clean it and have you tried a different litter? I once had a cat who perched her legs on the edge of the litterbox rather than ever touch the litter. She was both fastidious, not alpha, and for the record did have some health issues. She didn't want near the other cats poop at all!

I have one cat who usually puts her front paws on the side of the box and her back paws in the litter to poop and poops semi standing up.  She doesn't do this when she urinates, only when she poops.  She then walks the edge of the box (as in on the lip of the box!) and reaches in with her front paws to cover.  WEIRD cat!!  Just thought I'd let you know that sometimes this is normal.

I had one who put one front paw up on the rim of the box.  I also had one who scratched the inside of the box (not in the litter) to try to cover it.

Does she look like this when she’s pooping? If so, my cat poops standing up too. Shes done it since I adopted her at 8 weeks old. She’s 6 years old now and it still makes me laugh.
If your cat is suddenly standing up to poop and it looks like he/she is straining
(constipated) take her to a vet. If she’s like Lola then its just one of the many weird things she does that makes her a good conversation piece.
