Hello , we have a new  Kitten and she seems to have a URI , she was recently spayed and  just came home on Christmas eve from a rescue with several cats/kittens , many of which also seem to have URI issues and colds. I started her on an antibiotic tonight  but I was thinking some Probios in Raw Cows milk or duted on her wet food might help her immune system. Any thoughts ?

Hi, congratulations on your new kitten! :-) How old is she? Though probiotics can be great for intestinal health, I think rather than raw cows milk, you're better off offering her raw goat's milk as its easier to digest. Some local independent pet food stores sell it frozen, so you may need to thaw it out first in your fridge for a few days.

If you want to help boost her immunity, however, the best thing for a URI flare would be to add in 250-500mg capsule of l-lysine to her wet food once a day. L-lysine is an amino acid that helps fight off virus types of colds, and works to help boost the immune system. Its similar to human folks taking it for cold sores. You can find it at any supplement or health food store, but also see if you can get the capsules in powder form, it'll be easier to dissolve it in her canned food with a bit of warm water added to it. The warmed effect can also help her appetite as she'll also be able to smell her food better, too.

Well wishes to you and your kitty, good luck :-)

Thanks EmandJee! I never thought of the lysine .. We use that for our goats as well [emoji]128521[/emoji] I totally agree about the goat milk [emoji]128077[/emoji] we raise Nigerian dwarfs and I give the milk and whey to all our animals .. It's like Nectar of the GODS [emoji]128521[/emoji] However my girls are just pregnant and not in milk right now so I don't have any on tap until May [emoji]128516[/emoji][emoji]128521[/emoji] I will just give the probios to her in the powder form on her food and try the lysine as well. Thanks again [emoji]128522[/emoji] oh she is about 3 months .. I got her from a rescue and they had misplaced her paperwork so I don't have her actual bd.. They did call to say they found it so when I pick up our other kitten next week I'll know her exact BDay .
