Hi, if my cat has it, and it seems he has a mild case of it, would any cat I later adopted also get it? Could adopting another cat make my cats herpes worse? Right now he gets a little dry gunk in both eyes. It does seem it's getting to be a little worse. In the beginning only his right eye, now both, and some gunk in a nostril the vet cleaned away. She only recommends infant nose drops. I do use adult eye drops time to time ( which he seems to relax after getting, so they must feel good).

His nose sounds sniffly but vet said lungs were good.

I guess I'm hoping to get him a friend some day, as he was born to a kitty colony and as a www kitten was pretty much the colony prankster, and he sometimes looks outside then looks at me, and sighs as if bored.

Is there anyone here with a cat with herpes who adopted another cat, and what was the outcome?

Thank you.

Well my vet said that it's estimated that the majority of cats will have this virus in their system, especially those born to strays outside. And if you have two cats together then they will most likely pass it on. But it's not necessarily a big deal. Only my one cat has a problem with it and the other cat is fine.
So if you adopt a friend for him it wouldn't mean they will get sick. If you do the introductions slowly and carefully then you'll reduce stress for your cat, and the chance for a flare-up.

Most likely, no.  However, if any cat you adopt subsequently has been exposed to it previously or is a carrier, then the new kitty might have a flare up.  I have 4 cats. My longest resident has it and each kitty we've adopted subsequently has not had it.
