I have a two year old Orange tabby named Pirate. He is picky. When we adopted him last Christmas he was eating Pro Plan. Man is that stuff pricey. Recently our hearts melted for a kitty that was dropped off on the side of the road. She needed spayed, she needed deliced... ok I'm making excuses for buying cheap Aldi food. Then I heard about Orange tabbies having kidney issues. (True?) I went out and bought many types of food already knowing pirates picky habits (neighborhood cats enjoyed $9 Rachel Ray food) 2 Iams, Natural Choice, Purina Happy... and wet Evengers? Not one does he like!! Also will not eat cranberry uti prevention treats... help!

Ideally he should have nothing but WET food, grain free.  The least pricey way you can do that is by getting Friskies Canned LOAF ONLY (nothing with bits pieces shreds, which all contain wheat gluten).  I get it by the case at Tractor Supply, and it's even a little bit cheaper by a few cents a can at WalMart if you have one near you.  Avoiding all dry food is a good way to help the kidneys work at their best.  You should also keep the amount of FISH you feed down, so select mostly the meaty flavors rather than fish.  You will find many, many articles on here recommending many different foods, especially a raw diet, but I think this will be the simplest and best for you, at least to start with.  Most cats will dive right into wet food as their food in the wild comes wet, not dry.  Most of my personal cats have been eating this way for years (yes, they also get to share turkey, chicken and rarely salmon when I cook it) and most of them live to be 18-20 years old.

Hmm, yea I don't think I can afford $120 a month in cat food haha. So what would be the best dry food to mix with the wet? Can't you just add extra water to the food?
