Not breakfast in bed as I was already up this morning. But when Rick got up, he made us windowpanes (also called birds-in-the-nest, I think) with some bacon. And orange juice and coffee. And then he cleaned up. I hadn't had a windowpane in years.

Windowpanes - cut a square out of the center of a slice of buttered bread. Put the bread into the frying pan and then crack one egg into the "hole". Fry until the egg is done the way you want it.  Throw the square into the pan, too (the square you cut out of the center of the bread slice) and toast.  I know there are other names for them as well. Mom always called them Windowpanes.

Breakfast was delicious! That was nice of Rick; he said he was trying to earn some Christmas brownie points.

Aww Rick!  We know he earns plenty of browine points all year long!

My cousin's kids lived with my Grandparents for a while (with my cousin) and they were always making this for breakfast.  (They called it egg in the hole.)  I think it was the first thing they learned to cook independently on the stove.

DH had to work today (a short day; but still work) and I didn't roll out of bed until I absolutely HAD to.  (We are all in our pjs still.)  I have some bacon in the freezer.  Maybe we will do a good breakfast tomorrow.  Or breakfast for dinner.  We LOVE butterscotch chips in pancakes!  French toast sounds good too though.
  Decisions; decisions.

That is so sweet of him.  I have also heard them called Toads in the Hole.   I don't really understand that name but I think that is what the British call it.

toad in the hole is sausages cooked in Yorkshire pudding and served with gravy and stuff. No eggs.

Lucky you. One of my very favorite breakfasts. We always called it egg in a frame

Lucky woman!! My husband makes all the furbabies breakfast and makes me coffee. I am grateful for that every morning.
