I went to the vet on Monday with Pudding, one of my new cats. I collected them from the rescue centre on 15th November, and she had a bit of a runny eye. It seemed to clear up, then came back, went again, and came back, so that was why we went to see the vet.

I have drops to put in her eye twice a day and we started that on Monday night. Her eye looks a little better already but yesterday she started sneezing. I've heard her sneeze half a dozen times yesterday and today but there is nothing coming from her nose.

The vet asked me if she was sneezing, when we were there on Monday but of course she hadn't started it at that time. He said she may have a virus, and that could be the cause of her bad eye, so I'm wondering if this is indeed the case and the virus is now progressing. Or is it a reaction to something in the medicine perhaps? OH said, could it be that the drops have got things moving, that it's encouraging her to fight it off? I don't know, so I thought I would ask you good people if you had any thoughts on this.

I have nursed a cat through cat flu years ago so I know what that looks like, and Pudding does not look ill. She is eating well, playing and having cuddles as normal.

We will go back to the vet if necessary but I don't think it's an emergency so could probably wait until Monday.

Here is Pudding, asleep on my arm :)

It could be random sneezing...could be she sniffed up something whilst snooping around, and it tickled in her nose
Could be allergies...mine are horrible right now.

I would say as long as she's not stuffed up, and is eating fine, she can wait to see the Vet again, then maybe you could just CALL them and let them know she has started sneezing, and see what they say.

The sneezing could be related to the eye problem.  Call the vet's office in the morning and ask if you can also use the eye drops in the nose.  Soemtimes that works to do both in the eyes and in the nose.  Other than that, the sneezing could be from allergies or dust or who knows.

I had a situation where my cat would have what I called sneeze attacks. Where she would sneeze over and over. Turned out she had bad teeth and a infection in her mouth was the cause

Thank you, all, for your comments. I think her teeth are all right, he looked at those when we were there on Monday. No discharge at all from her nose either, but the runny eye is still runny. What's coming out of her eye is different now, it's clear fluid not brown stuff. It's the last day of eyedrops today so I will see what happens after that.

I haven't heard her sneeze much at all the last couple of days, thankfully, so if she DOES have a cold hopefully it is passing. I'll probably give the vet a ring tomorrow or the next day (am having dental treatment tomorrow so may not have a chance), just to ask.

Thanks again for taking the time to reply :)
