Everyone meet Sabbath ( A Black cat names Sabbath, get it...ok bad pun) She is a 6 month old kitten that my boyfriend, Cameron, Got me for Christmas , because I need some thing when he is away for a long time. But, her behavior is worrying me just a little. As you can see in this pic and in the avatar she is attaching to me and bonding with me nicely. She purrs and head butts me and even licks me...even early in the morning when she is ready to get up and play. But at any sudden movement or noise she will dive for under out couch and begin scratching and fall to sleep. I know this might be a little normal as she gets used to everything but I don't want her destroying my couch either (its barely 2 months old itself. Also I think it is just because she was around her brothers and sisters all the time, but she walks around meowing as if looking for something or someone and it breaks my heart, should I pick her up and cuddle her or let her have some space. She knows where her litter box and water and food is and I got her a scratching post with  catnip on it (Which she is not really interested in) and even organic cat treats, she is getting spayed and her vaccinations next month, I am just wondering if the hiding and meowing means I am a bad owner or just an ignorant or stupid one. Thanks for all your help ahead of time. Any advice would be amazing.

It sounds like she is in heat to me.  That would explain the meowing and searching.  They start puberty at around 5 months old.  The stress of a new home can cause her to go into heat.  Cats do not like change and it takes them awhile to get used to it.

But the thing is, she will constantly go into heat for a week or more at a time with maybe a week off.  And it only takes a couple of seconds for her to get pregnant.  So I would try to move her spaying up to ASAP.

As for the scratching.  You can try Soft Paws, these are preferable to declawing and they will make it so she cannot destroy your furniture.  You can get them at any pet specialty store.

Heat already, that is scary, but there is not ..vaginal blood or spraying, I have read a little about it. Can it still be heat?

Cats are not like dogs or humans.  They do not bleed or have "periods."  Yes it is heat.  And like I said, it will be a constant thing and not like dogs where it's every few months.  She will constantly come into heat and be trying to get out to mate and it only takes seconds for her to get pregnant.  Call her vet on Monday or ASAP and explain that you want to have her spayed at the earliest convenience.

Thank you very much her vet " I have yet to take her because I got her the day before xmas eve" will be called tomorrow. Also sense you have alot of knowledge vaccinations are a good idea yes...some websites remind me of the "Vaccinations cause autism" Sites I have seen. I should get her vaccinated no matter what though correct?

The jury is still out on that.  Just like with people vaccines.  Some don't agree and some do.  But, I believe kitten vaccinations are crucial.  Plus, a lot of vets will NOT spay without doing them first.  And also, if you ever take her to a groomers or a kennel while you are away, they will not take her without vaccination records being up to date.  I say to each their own.  Indoor cats, it's not necessary in my opinion.  I usually get the kitten ones and then after that, I don't.

She will be an indoor cat but, I will do the kitten vaccines just to be safe and make sure that I can make sure that groomers and her vet will take her and work on her. Thank you very much for all of your help.

Oh before you leave the thread, What can I do to help her relax and not run and hide at any move or sound that is sudden in the house? I want to give her a gentle transition as possible.

Well considering she is doing so well as you've only had her 2 days.... This is normal.  A lot of people like to put them in the bathroom so they are not so overwhelmed.  Just let her get used to you and then the house later.  Keep it short at first so you don't overwhelm her but let her kind of do her own thing.  If you're really worried, though it is expensive, you can try Feliway diffusers.  Lots of people say it helps calm cats.
