Hello!
I just made this account and I am really worried about my kitty.Suddenly my cat started acting really weird. He is scared of everything,he is 7 months old and I had him for 4 months now.He was never scared even when I took him in,he was curious and everything,he liked to explore everything. He was fine in the night but when I woke up the next morning he was completely different,he is scared even to go to any of the apartment rooms,he seems only ok in the hallway and it was not like this before :( he is scared of everything now.Maybe  he smelled the chemicals  I used to kill the flees he carried with him in the other room, but i covered every hole, everything he could not have smelled it,it started after all that. When  he is in my room he meows a lot...and his movements are really slow and he smells everything now,he is the only pet I have and I'm not letting him out of the house :(

Merry Xmas everyone, sorry about my english.

Hi, welcome to The Cat Site.

There are two reasons that I can think of for his behaviour. It could be that the strange smell of the flea medicine is scaring him. Cats are very sensitive to change and an unfamiliar chemical smell would scare him.

It could also be that he's had a reaction to the flea medicine. Did you use something on him or just around the house? What did you use? I'm worried because you say his movements are really slow. Cats can absorb toxins through their skin, if he walked anywhere that you used a chemical to kill fleas he could have absorbed it through his paws.

Is it possible to take him to a vet?

Once you've ruled out an allergic reaction or poisoning you can work on rebuilding his confidence, but I think it's important to make sure there is no medical reason for his change in behaviour first of all.

Thanks for the reply. I used Raid multi insect killer. He could not have gotten anything on his paws, since i did not let him go in the room and covered everything.
And I bought him a collar against the flees. Collar was "Hartz Ultra Guard".In the morning i took it off.He had it only for the night.
The vet clinics are closed at this time =/
By slow i ment he sniffs everything before going somewhere and he is bit jumpy. Now he is in the living room and calm but bit jumpy.

Cats can see/hear/smell things from a surprising distance. My cat smells coconut oil from across the room the moment I open the jar. He hears the sound of his catnip jar shaking and will run downstairs to find it. He can see the faintest light and notice the smallest moving shadow.

Doors are not air tight, so even with a door closed your cat is very likely to smell it. Raid is designed to smell like poison. He can only assume that's what it is. And yes, Norachan is right that some cats have a bad reaction to Hartz.

Get him to a vet in the next few days to make sure he is not sick. You also need to speak with a vet or a pest control expert about cat-friendly ways to stop insects.

The thing about insect poison is what they call secondary poisoning. An insect walks around in the poison, then crawls off someplace else to die, then your cat finds an insect wiggling around on the floor so he eats it. Now your cat has eaten some of the poison. Because cats are so curious and love to get into everything. you must be super careful. If anything could be poison to a cat, do not leave it out in any room of your house, even if you don't believe he can get into that room. If you do not totally need it, it's best to not have it in the house.

Is this the first time you are putting a collar on him? My cat did this when I put a flea collar on him for the first time. It was also the first time he had a collar on whatsoever. I had to take it off of him and he's never worn a collar since. I would not use Raid anywhere your cat can walk becuase that spray is not intended to come in contact with children or pets dry or otherwise. It may just be the collar itself that is making him act this way and the smell of the insecticide you have used. I would make sure you wash him paws well.
