Wishing I could adopt another cat...

I found a beautiful, 2 year old white cat at the local shelter. It is a kill shelter. Every day, I check to see if she is still there, and watch as she is moved closer to the top of the list. I wish that someone would adopt her. I wish I could adopt her, but I already have four dogs and a cat. I just don't think I could afford the additional vet care for her. It just makes me sick that she could be put to sleep. Any one else struggle with this type if thing? Just not sure what to do... maybe I should stop checking on her.

Could you not adopt her from the kill shelter and then find another home for her? She sounds beautiful.

I know financially it's difficult but I'd not hesitate before it's too late and you'd never forgive yourself.
That's my opinion.

To be honest I don't look at the pictures from kill shelters only the no kill shelters.  I am at my limit as well.  If I were looking to adopt I would adopt from a kill shelter.  It's hard to admit but they can't all be saved.  Wish they could be but they can't.

I agree, get her out first, then worry about finding another home. I struggle every time I visit the shelter, even though ours is a no kill. I know some of the poor 'old' boys most likely end up on a farm, and my heart goes out to them. See if the shelter would let you post a sign on her door asking for someone to help you with the money for her adoption, I pay for several adoptions a year to help people just like you, it helps so you can have a little extra for emergencies.  I would bet you could find a caring home for her. Good luck, I'll keep you both in my thoughts and prayers!

Her adoption fee is only $25, this includes spay and vaccinations. I'm tempted to go get her tomorrow. I just worry if something major were to happen to her healthwise, I wouldn't be able to treat her. I hate to see her put to sleep, though, over a 'what if' scenario.

What would you regret more - not doing something and she's killed, you temporarily adopt her and she's fine until you find her a furrever home, you adopt her and something catastrophic happens and you have to scramble to save her.

Door number one seems like a "regretfor the rest of your life" scenario.

Door number two is win for you, win for her, win for her furrever home.

Last door is a "who knows" situation - she may get sick / she might not get sick. If she gets sick it might be minor / it might be serious. If it is serious you might manage somehow / you might have difficult times.

For $25 that saves her life AND includes spay and vaccinations it is difficult to see how you would go wrong.

(Besides, it almost sounds like you want us to convince you to do what you really want to do, at heart. The replies so far sure sound like a consensus  to me . . . .)

Yes, I think I am looking for reassurance that adopting her would be the right thing to do. I just want to make sure it is the responsible decision. I'm glad that everyone seems to think it would be, even if I just keep her until a permanent home could be found.

Hi BlueFox
Please go get her. Run to get her. It is breaking my heart to think that she may be put to sleep. Don't think about what may happen if she may get sick. If you adopt her now then you are saving her life and that is what is important at this moment. You can look to find her another more permanent home later if you choose to. Please follow your heart and get that poor baby out of there before it is too late. Please save her life!

If you are able, I have to agree with the other posters, rescue her now and worry about the future later.   The cat you have now will likely appreciate the companion. And "Snowball" is only two, so hopefully she won't have any health issues for a while.  And worse case scenario if she gets sick you can try to raise funds online via the GoFundMe site.

If you can't adopt her, you have to stop torturing yourself by looking at the site.  What you don't know is better in this case, and she still could get adopted by someone else before she reaches the top of the list.

Kill shelters have got to be the worst place to work / volunteer.  My heart wouldn't be able to handle it.

I've adopted so many cats from kill shelters. I always ended up finding them nice homes (: Taking cute pictures of them helped attract a lot of attention!

I am so glad she has been adopted.  I was looking at pictures from the largest no kill shelter here today.  I always gravitate to the ones that have the smallest chance of adoption, the black kitties and/or the ones that have the face shape that many people consider ugly.  Of course I don't think any kitty is ugly.  Some of them had been there for several years, probably are 'home'.  It is a good shelter but still a shelter versus a home.

I agree.  Our shelter has a black cat, looks like my babies.  He is a little shy so he does not pay attention to visitors. He has been there all his life, 19 months.  I would love to take him, but my momma's boy would need Xanax.  Makes me sad every time I visit him. I am sponsoring him.

I had a medium hair black cat with ear tips like a lynx crawl out of his cage onto my shoulder today. He rubbed his face on me. He was the sweetest cat, but again all black. I hope he gets a home.

BlueFox::  Wonderful news for that beautiful kitty and for you, as I know you weren't really in a position to adopt her.

The ones that always break my heart are the older kitties. They look so lost and lonely and sad. If I could I'd bring them all home ( thereby labeling myself as a " hoarder")!

She is a beautiful girl, and I'm so glad someone adopted her! It's truly wonderful for them both. I am also considering an adoption. This poor little guy has spent his life mostly in cages. First he was rescued right before being euthanized, then spent almost 2 years as a blood donor cat. This minute I saw him and those eyes, I was enthralled ( read hooked!) any advice at this point would be very much appreciated. It may well be too soon after losing Rascal, my beautiful baby, but this kitty is calling out to me very intensely. Here is his picture...and I'm sure if you've seen my lost ones, you'll notice how much he resembles them. But the look in his eyes is what's drawing me. So here he is, let me know what you think please?
