Hello everyone! I was hoping some of you could give me some advice:

My 8 year old cat has not been eating. Most days he will look at his food and walk away, but as soon as my husband or I have food, he wants what we have. When he does eat, its usually a few bites and then he walks off. Every other day, when he gets really hungry, he will scarf everything down. And twice over the last week he has thrown up right after eating. But surprisingly this was not on the days he ate too fast. I’ve tried different foods, and it’s still the same. He has lost 2 pound since our last vet visit making him only 7.5lbs. I know that his globulin was high on his blood work. They two vets that have seen him say they are concerned about this, as this is often a sign of cancer in cats, but don’t really tell me what I should do. Just to watch for unusual behavior and yellowing of the eyes. They are constantly very vague. My husband and I are at our wits end trying to get this cat to eat. We’ve seen at least 4 vets over the last year over his off and on weight/eating issues. All he wants is cat treats and our food, but we can’t feed him that stuff. He’ll expect it all the time and then really won’t want cat food. We have been through that before already. I’m tempted to give him appetite stimulants again. We have a few pills left over from a few months ago. We currently have prednisolone oral liquid that I just got last weekend for an unrelated issue. I know that one of the side effects of this is increased appetite and thirst…which is good…but I’m afraid to give it to him on an empty stomach. I’m so worried that my cat is wasting away to nothing. He doesn’t appear to be in much discomfort (other than being itchy from a skin problem, which is why we have the prednisolone) or fatigue. He still is occasionally playful even; though I don’t engage him much in play since I want him to conserve his energy if he’s not eating.

My question is, should I seek a second opinion? I don’t feel like his vets are doing or telling me enough. If there is anyone in the east-side metro Detroit area, could you recommend a clinic as well? Any suggestions would be very much appreciated!

I would get a second opinion.  I am not from that area so I have no recommendations.  Try a cats only clinic, no guarantee but you might have better luck.   http://www.catvets.com/cat-owners/find-vets-and-practices  has a database of cat friendly practices.  They have badges with gold being the best assigned to them.

Chronic digestive issues can be many things not all of them being cancer.  General vets tend to not take these issues seriously the thinking being that kitties  tend to be that way.

Most definitely time for a second opinion.  How's his pooping?  Does he poop daily?  Does he drink water?  Make sure they do a senior blood work panel on him to check kidney function.  You also might want to get an xray to rule out blockages or masses.
