My cat vomited a bunch of times last night. I recall my last cat vomiting occasionally but wanted to check. What causes this? Isn't it usually a hairball?

Could be a variety of things: hairball, ingestion of a foreign object, ingestion of a toxic substance (plant, chemical, etc), eating food too fast, upset tummy from food, etc.

How is the cat now? Is she behaving normally and drinking and eating ok? If the vomiting happens again or you see unusual symptoms, I suggest that you take your cat to the vet.

Just last night(Sunday). What worried me is that I saw him eat a little piece of straw or wood the Fri or Sat. But my old cat used to have straw dental floss, plastic in his poo so I know they can get at stuff and be ok. I gave him some hairball gel yesterday as a precaution.

One of my cats has had two very sick episodes over the years.  Both times she was diagnosed by the vets with some vague illness and prescribed antibiotics.  And both times, she was much better after coughing up a large hairball.  So yes, hairballs can cause sick-like symptoms.  The last episode was a couple of weeks ago and my vet prescribed metronidozale but also asked that I give my cat hairball gel/petroleum jelly for 3-4 days straight.  My cat continued to vomit for 3 days--but her last two episodes contained hairball and thereafter she made a speedy recovery.  And I have to admit both the illness episodes followed periods where I was lax in brushing/hairball gel distribution.

Finally, even your last cat was able to pass foreign objects through her system--it still would be prudent to prevent your current act from ingesting stuff that shouldn't be in his body.  Just to be safe.

Yeah.

I am just concerned because I am going away for three days on Wednesday, and I want to be sure he is ok.

Well the last two times, I just left food and water, but I can't do that if I think he may be sick. I will ask my neighbor to look in on him. Normally, I don't bother because she never even sees him because he hides. I guess if she puts the food out, she will be able to tell if he is eating.

Hopefully, he won't throw up tonight. I think I should take him to the vet tomorrow if he is sick tonight.
