Poop butt

My cat tends to have quite a bit of poop stuck to his butt after using the litterbox, and he usually poops about three to four times a day. At first I thought he was having diarrhea but then I looked in the litterbox and nocticed that most of his poops are actually well formed (some are a little on the runny side and quite foul smelling). Is it normal for cats to have a fair amount of poop remaining on their butt after using the litterbox? If so are they just supposed to lick it off? (So far I've been cleaning it off in the sink because he won't, he'll get it all over everything no problem if I don't deal with it quickly) I've taken him to the vet, but I told him that my cat was having diarrhea. Which I realize now, he is not. I just didn't see how else he would have so much left on his rear end. Other then that my cat seems to be in good health. He eats/acts normally (he has always been a bit violent when he "plays" though) I've been up to date on worm pills, I did change his food recently but it's a REALLY healthy kind and I thought it would help (he's had this problem since before then but it seems to be getting worse) I've been told that I should put him on adult cat food now that he is 5 months old, but I really don't know at this point. I'm just really sick of cleaning up poop. I'm afraid to go to sleep in fear I'll miss him going number two and he will get it everywhere. I'm starting to go crazy.

My guess is it's the new food. Can you try probiotic s? A dab of plain greek yogurt everyday?

When my cat has stool issues he basically runs like h e ll out of the litterbox because it smells so bad, instead if waiting to finish. Your kitten might be, too.

It's a fairly benign issue unless he's got worms in his stools. I wish the worst that I had going on was my cat and his Klingons!!!

Hmm maybe. I'm going to change his food again to some normal adult cat food. If his body reacts to change like this then I should probably do it now instead of waiting until he's used to this food. I've never had a problem cat before. So all this is new to me. Thanks for your input :)

Find a good cat food that helps with sensitive stomachs. He may be slightly allergic or intolerant to some common ingredient.

Cat poo is normally a little smelly, bit it seems to be very bad that's not normal. It's also normal for a cat to have specks of poo in their hair but not a massive amount. Mister is right that cats will sometimes 'abandon the mission' too soon if they are uncomfortable in the box or if it hurts to go.

You never mentioned if he was a long or short hair.  I've had the problem with poo sticking to my long hair but after a trip to the groomer that was taken care of.
