We will be going away for 4 days and have a 5 month old kitten and 2 elderly cats. We have a pet sitter who will be coming twice daily, but feel we cannot leave the kitten alone for that long as he torments the older cats and they do not care for him (also, they have some health issues). Our options are to board him where he will get 5 30 minute interaction sessions per day, leave him at home and hope for the best, or have him stay at a friend's home with her 6 month old kitten and 2 little boys. We are going to our friend's home this weekend for the kittens to have a "meet & greet" to see if this is even a viable option. My fear of him staying with my friend is that there are too many variables - what if the kittens don't get along, what if he escapes, etc?

I'm torn as to the best thing to do for him. He is super sweet and we've only had him 3 months, so he is finally settling into a routine with us.

Thoughts?

With two little boys I would be too afraid of them letting him out or even accidently hurting him. I myself would board the kitten. Maybe when he calms down when he gets older the other two will be more accepting. This will give your two older ones a mini vacation too!

Thank you....I'm leaning towards boarding as I feel he will be safer.

I'd stay away from sending your kitten to a friends house. So many reasons why not to do that. I think a boarding situation would be better then a friends home.

For the sake of your older kiddos I'd go with the boarding too so you don't have to worry about them while your out of town.

Keep in mind 4 days would be enough that your older kitties might forget about the kitten and you may have to do a proper re-introduction all over again.
