It is known that cats don’t need a regular bathing like dogs, especially if they are an indoor cat, do you agree with that and how many people bath their pets?
When we first got Amber as a wee little kitten, she had a couple fleas. Too young for flea stuff and I wasn't going there. I put her in the kitchen sink with warm water and very carefully poured the water over and around her as I combed her out. Got the fleas with the comb, gently dried her off with a fluffy towel and that was that. None of the other cats have ever had a bath.
I don't bathe my cats at all. They're indoor and, frankly, I don't see the need.
I bathe my show cats before (almost) every show, which is usually once or twice a month. The cats I don't show never get baths. Foster kittens occasionally need a bath, especially when they're learning to eat solid food. They have a tendency to swim in the wet food so they get more on the outside than the inside. Even then it's not a full bath, just a quick rinse under plain warm water.
I bathe my indoor cats about once a month. One is a white long hair, he takes a while because I have to blow him dry. The short-hairs are easy to bathe and dry. I get a lot more shed off with a comb in the bath. I also have cat allergies, but I find that bathed cats do not bother my allergies.
I bathe my short-haired cat every two months. I do it in order to stimulate her skin, reduce hair balls and loosen the shedded fur that is adhering to her body. Cats shed year round. Some of the fur that has been released adheres to the body with the assistance of friction or of natural body oils. Washing my cat allows that fur to come off. If my cat lived outside, her skin would be washed by rain. She would walk through bushes, so the branches would scrape off fur that has been released during shedding. Also, being covered with saliva is not the same as being clean, in my opinion.
I have never used a furminator, but I was told that it did not just take off shed. I was told there is breakage of the healthy hair shafts. Almost like the thinners that beauty salons use on women's hair.
I may have to try that. I think I need two because the ones I have seen are for either long hair or short hair and it did not look like blades could be interchanged. My little princess jumps on the toilet every morning when I am getting ready for work. I wave the slicker brush and she poses pretty like a meerkat to be brushed. Must be she has a hot date after I go to work!
Angel has only gotten a bath about once a year for the last 3 years. August was 3 years that he has been indoor only now, so It was usually because he seemed itchy & I used the pet meds aloe & Oatmeal shampoo & conditioner on him.
BUT, When he used to go outside, he liked to roll in the dirt , & the pollen would bother him to where he chewed small raw spots on himself before. SO, he would get a bath about once a month.
The rest of the time, I just brushed him really well (& used wipes). "I'm so glad he's only indoors now!
His last bath was a year ago next month. He hasn't had the need for one, & smells yummy on his own. I don't know how, but he does!
Here are some pictures from past baths! You can see "He is NOT amused!"
