$2.59 a gallon this morning when I put gas into Hannah. I put $25 in, which didn't quite fill it up.

I just saw it for $2.05 a gallon.  There are some other areas in the metro area that are always a little lower then my area so there may be some below $2 here close.

OK.. so 1 gallon = 4.55 litres,  I pay about $1.50 a litre (usually $1.70 - I buy the best quality petrol)

So I pay between $6.80 and $8 per gallon.

We were pretty much on a par with the US dollar till recently, but at the moment it's 1.25 Aus to the US$.  (between US$5.52 and $6.50).

It costs me about A$50 to fill my very tiny car.

@Mani A U.S. gallon is 3.8 liters. A lb. doesn't weigh the same everywhere either. That makes comparisons rather difficult.
OK.. about $6 per US gallon.  Or 'a lot' ..

The lowest I've seen is $1.69/gallon. But then, they're fracking like crazy down here. New York needs to pay more, or start fracking their own resources.

I got gas yesterday.  I had a 30 cent supermarket discount and got premium for $1.74 a gallon.  The normal price for regular was $1.84 a gallon.  It has been a long time since it's been this low.

We are at $2.45 a gallon right now. Rick can use our Giant points to get gas tomorrow at $1.45 a gallon. Been a long, long time!

Rick usually takes the store points because he has the truck and that thing uses a lot of gallons.

That is because of the extra tax that you pay.  You also have more in the way of government services and a stronger safety net then the U.S. has.  It kind of depends on which end of the economic spectrum your on.  People doing well financially hate paying a lot of tax and people who need help do better in a system with those services and strong safety net.

:yeah: Another factor is that many European countries, unlike most parts of the U.S., have good public transit systems. They can encourage people to use them by keeping gas/patrol prices high via taxes.
