Rigel asked me to fill in for him and I just remembered!

Ok, there has been a lot of talk on here about opening gifts and when to open them. So my question is,

if you receive a gift early, do you open it right away?

I am awful. I will rip that paper right off. I remember being a kid and going on a hunt with one of my brothers to find out where the gifts were hidden. I've been known to unwrap and re-wrap them. :anon:

LOL!

I am unashamedly lacking in self control when it comes to gifts. I don't know what I would do with myself if I received a gift that came with instructions to wait until X date. I feel like if I put it off too long, I'd forget and just never open it. So to be safe, it's always best for me to just open things as they're received.

When I was a teenager I'd spend at least a month of my summer in another state with my Grandparents (where my Dad and the rest of my family live too).  My Grandma and my Aunt would often send me home with my Christmas gifts.  Already wrapped in paper.  I usually did pretty good keeping them on the shelf in my closet until November or so.  Then I'd carefully unwrap and re-wrap.  At least the little boxes.  My Gram was a firm believer in girls having a few good pieces of gold and she bought a nice silver chains and a bracelet for me too.  It's hard for a girl to resist obvious jewelry.

I rip mine off too. A wrapped gift exists solely to be opened. I am merely fulfilling my divine obligation to immediately separate the wrapper from the gift, and my mommy always say procrastinating is opportunity's assassin.

Nope - I'm definitely on the "light side". When I was a kid, we opened family gifts on Christmas Eve (a German tradition passed down on my maternal grandmother's side) and stuff from "Santa Claus" Christmas morning. Santa Claus hasn't visited in many decades, so gifts are opened Christmas Eve.

We wait until Christmas morning to open gifts to each other. Then we open with our children whenever we see them. Normally, I don't unwrap and rewrap or open gifts early unless the giver requests me to do it.

Christmas morning here, too. We do open a small stocking stuffer on Christmas Eve after he gets home from church.

When my sister and I were kids, we'd investigate every inch of the house, looking for our "stuff". We'd always find it, too! But then Mom got smart and she started hiding our gifts in the camper....and she took the camper keys with her to work! We were very insulted that she didn't trust us, not that it did any good. We asked Mom why she took the keys with her; she looked right at us and asked, "Now why in the world would you two even need the keys?" and, of course, we were busted at that point.

I found a box under their bed one time. It wasn't wrapped, so I opened it. It was empty except for a note: "BUSTED!" I didn't think it was funny. My sister thought it was hilarious and couldn't wait to tell my parents when they got home from work. (She was always a snot)

After Rick and I got married, I used to snoop around, looking for stuff. But then, I don't know, I just stopped. I don't snoop at all anymore. And I don't rip the wrapping paper either. I take my time. Rick and I take turns opening gifts and I'm fine with it.
