stool repeatedly followed by blood

hello, i am bishr from syria, a veterinarian friend of mine has asked me to seek help for him in treating a sick cat, it is a male and the problem is that each time it defecates the stool is followed by visible blood, could it be some abnormal tissue growth causing constriction or possibly hemorrhoids?

any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated, thank you very much.

Blood in or following the stool is an irritated/inflamed bowel/intestine.

The most common reasons for this is parasites, or dietary.

Our one cat, age 10, had a small amount of blood with her stool for as long as I can remember. She got an unrelated illness and passed a few months ago, but it was interesting because she was on a supplement called Rutin for her disease "chylothorax", but the supplement is used for cell renewal and people use it for hemorrhoids as well and amazingly enough...she had no more blood in her stools the last couple weeks of her life... so for her, it was simply a hemorrhoid or something similar... as it didn't affect her health, but if the kitty you are talking about is ill, it may be something more serious.

Does your vet friend have Internet access? If so, he can use VIN.com, a vet only web site that has lots of articles on all sorts of veterinary topics and a message board to discuss cases with other vets from all over the world.

i will pass on the replies to the doctor and last night i asked him for more details about the age and diet of the cat and he said the cat is two and a half years old and eats dry food with the occasional treat of spread-cheese.
