Just today I happened to notice that my beloved cat Scout's face was bleeding. I immediately assumed it was from playing too hard with my kitten Cally as they both have accidentally gotten scratched by each other before. Cally will sometimes do the jackrabbit type kick on him and I figured she did it on his face. When I went to clean off the cut, I noticed that he was missing fur! It was definitely not like this yesterday or the day before, but perhaps I just didn't notice. I obviously am going to take him to the vet, but I'm leaving for my hometown 1,000 miles away in a few days and I'm not sure if the vet can get him before that. I'm wondering if it's serious enough to get checked immediately or if I should wait until I'm off vacation. He is eating, playing, and using the litter box normally, however he HAS been taking a liking to Cally's kitten food. By liking, I mean he GOBBLES it up as soon as I fill the bowl. Maybe that has caused an allergic reaction? I also noticed a red scab near his ear yesterday, but I assumed it was from him scratching too much. (He had issues with ear mites as a kitten and now has abnormal ear wax build up that sometimes bothers him.) Not sure if this helps, but I took Cally to the vet yesterday to get her shots and to get a scab on her nose checked out, but the vet picked it off and said not to worry and to keep an eye on it. She found that Cally has an ear infection and she is now being treated with ear drops.

hair loss and scabbing on left side of face

similar issue on ear

I haven't noticed any other spots like this anywhere else on his body.

You need to get him to the vet for a proper diagnosis, but I'm thinking it could be flea allergy, ringworm, or food allergy.  It could, of course, be something completely different, but the vet should culture the skin and give you a complete diagnosis and treatment plan.

Yeah, I was thinking the same. I was so anxious I called the vet almost immediately after I posted this LOL. I'm taking him in today in a few minutes, I will update with what the vet says.

I'm so glad you are having a vet check him out. Keep us posted. He's a beautiful boy.

Well, a few weeks later and surprise, it's ringworm. I've been dipping him and my 4 month old kitten and they've been hating me, LOL. Just glad that it's something treatable and nothing serious. Thanks for your help!
