My cat, Monkey, has had diarrhea for 6 weeks now and the vet wanted me to try Dia-gel. I got 3 doses and she has already had 2 over a 24 hour period and there has been no improvement at all. Does anyone know how soon it should work? Everything I see says 24 hours but I guess I am hoping that someone here has some experience that says it might take a bit longer. I was really, really hoping this would resolve it. My poor girl has been through enough (long story) and she needs a break. Am I just being too impatient or is this probably not going to do the trick? Btw, she has pooped twice since taking it and it is not better at all. Also, she has already done a round of metronidazole and nada. In fact, overall it seemed to make her feel a bit worse if anything. Any advice?

First Beautiful Kitty.

Is Dia-gel a probotic?

If it is I am assuming vet did labs/stool studies and ruled out all other causes of the diarrhea. My cats just had the same problem, after the vet ruled everything else out. Stress in the home, change of food, she gave them a probotic.  I threw out a bag of food, same brand/protein as normal, that I bought right before the diarrhea started happening.  I bought a new bag of same brand/different protein food. I started them on a probotic. It took two days for the first of my cats to have normal stools and about 4 for the rest.  I do not know if I had a bad batch of food or the probotic did its job.

Yes, the vet has ruled out any other problems and I guess now we will have to start looking at her diet more closely. She eats a mid-priced, good food (not sure if I am allowed to mention it here) that has never caused problems before. I know that doesn't really matter - this kind of stuff can just seem to start out of nowhere - but it is disappointing. I have been looking at probiotics and will ask my vet what she suggests. I really hoped the dia-gel would do it but after 3 doses now, I am not seeing much improvement.

Glad that your babies are better. Sounds like you found the right combo very quickly!

Btw, I just now saw the first two lines of your post. I guess I had not opened my browser all the way - so sorry - but thank you! I think she is beautiful too. Also, Dia-gel is an all-natural liquid that contains thymol and carvacrol which are, believe it or not, made from oregano. It also has lots of other natural things in it as well. According to what I have read, it works like a charm for most types of diarrhea in cats and dogs.

I also use a pricey mid grade food. My cats choice not mine! My oldest cat is very picky and when I tried to slowly change his food to a better one he ate his normal bits and pawed the other food out of his dish onto the mat. I think he only likes flat bits and a lot of foods are shaped more like fish pellets. My ordeal lasted 3 weeks between 4 cats. I am thinking it was a bad bag of the food, because there were no virus/bacteria found by my vet and like she said it will be highly unlikely that you had 4 cats all develop IBS at the same time. I had to look up my Pet Smart receipts to see when I bought the food and it was they day before this all started. I wish you good luck!
