Obviously I don't know much about the 3rd eyelid but I new more than the receptionist if I knew I needed to get Norville into the vet right away and she didn't think so. She asked me if I would like to talk to the vet though and then we both found out the vet wants him first thing in the a.m. so I didn't know how bad it was either. I thought it was probably part of his cold.I am so mad because I noticed it beginning Friday and now its covering almost his whole eye and pinkish/red. She said it could be an ulcer or something scratched his eye.

Anyone have this happen with their cat/kitten before?

I hope your kitty is feeling better .  Yes , my female cat had this issue with her eye once . I took her to the vet , he put a stain on her eye and turns out she had conjunctivitis . She had to have drops in both eyes for 2 weeks and it cleared right up .

Thanks 2Cats4Me for your reply. I took him in today. Poor little guy. It was so painful watching him have his third eyelid pulled back with foreceps and cleaned out with solutions. You could see how painful it was. The vet even remarked on it. Yet he laid so still and let her do what she needed to. Her exact words were "any other cat would have tore me apart by now." That is how he is and I think it has to do with the fact that he had to fight to live from the beginning and I had to help him so he just knows he has to let someone help. Now Mia would have never allowed it but she has never been sickly. He had a lump formed under his eye which we are not sure is inflammation or tumor at the moment. For now he is on steroid cream and antibiotic cream. When gone if it is not all taken care of we will decide what to do from there. He also got 2 shots.

I asked her if she could look at his ears for mites also while there. She said she has to study them under scope to in order to know for sure. My old vet I don't remember doing that with Mia and Mia's ears are worse and she got it when Norville came to live with us. Thank God, the vet just took pitty on me and said "I'm not suppose to do this but I will just give you medicine for Norville but enough so you can use for both and I wont test them this time. But then she gave me the "cats are a luxury" Spill and I need to realize that with my finances.  Wow. I gave her the cat are a necessatie too. Mine are . As I am Bipolar and have CPTSD and that is why even though I am on disability and have to live in housing that will not allow pets , they will because I have a DR.s order. I also have epilepsy and they stay right next to me while I have a episode. She apologized but oooooo, I was not happy and have not been happy with having to take my babies there but I cant drive anymore so I cant go to our old vet who is 18 miles away. This is very rural area I live in. Tiny towns spread out, with 1 vet if lucky per town. So I guess as long as she treats my cats good I will keep going but she needs to hold her tongue.

Your kitty probably has been seen by the vet already... so he's probably already got medication...

But something similar happened to me about 6 years ago...my second foster litter of kittens I left in the morning to go to work and everyone was fine. Came home 9 hours later and I wigged out! One of my kittens came running up to me all happy as can be and her eye was a giant red mess. That's when I learned about the third eye lid.... I thought she ruined her eye or something. The vet calmed me down and gave me some ointment for her eye. In two days she was back to normal.

The third eye lid is designed to protect they eye and it's done what's it met to do in this case. Since he's had a cold it's most likely conjunctivitis and they'll give either a cream or a drop for they eye.

Best wishes to your boy. :)
