So I know that Taurine is essential and you can never really have too much, so how much are you guys actually adding?

I've been using NOW Foods Taurine Pure Powder, which indicates that 1/4 teaspoon = 1000mg. I hope that's accurate, I usually just weigh everything but my kitchen scale is barely even reading this small amount of powder. So for 12lbs of meat, I'm adding about 8000mg of Taurine. How about you guys? Do you think I should be adding more?

I fed prey model raw and don't supplement. But when available, I do give Ritz a meal of hearts, which have the highest concentration of taurine.

"A meal of hearts", that's interesting, I started giving my cats Bravo's freeze dried turkey hearts as treats. I was going to post a question here if there is a limited amount of hearts I should give per day, I've been giving them 2-3 daily. I read turkey hearts were high in protein and taurine - but also phosphorus.

My (unscientific) understanding is that taurine is a vitamin of sorts as such excess will be excreted. I don't know about protein or phosphorus, though cats have a much higher need for protein than humans.

I think 2-3 hearts a day or 1 meal a week of hearts shouldn't be a problem at all. On the feline-nutrition.org website they say that hearts are a great source of taurine but are high in sodium and that you don't want to feed in excess of 7(ish) a day.

I only feed 5 Prey Model Raw meals a week, it is 1 adult quail for each cat cut up into 5 servings and I feed them that on Monday-Friday breakfast. Obviously there is only 1 heart for each cat and they eat it on Monday (along with other parts of the quail that make up the meal). But the rest of their diet is ground raw that I add a premix to (Alnutrin) and that has plenty of taurine I'm sure.
