We have Comcast triple play - phone, internet and cable, and think it's great. We do use On Demand fairly often, mostly to watch TV shows we missed, since we're not night people and miss anything at 10 pm, or so. We occasionally watch movies, free ones are not so good, but the ones you pay for are sometimes good. However, noticed lately that the prices have sky-rocketed. Used to be $5.99 or $7.99, but now we see movies for $17.99 - $19.99. And most of them are movies we've never heard of . I can see spending $5.99 or $7.99, but if you're going to pay $17.99 or higher you might just as well go to a movie and seeing it on the big screen. There are practically no movies that sound the great to us. I wanted to see 12 Years a Slave, but won't spend $17.99.

What do you think

Is that to "rent!?" We dropped comcast to internet only. We just weren't getting our moneys worth with tv. We bought 2 roku boxes and subscribed to Netflix and Amazon Prime. Its been good. The only thing I truly miss is The Weather Channel. (Their actual forecast/weather coverage mostly. Not the shows really.) I do miss watching the DIY network and HGTV at times too.

HGTV is my favorite station. Watch it all the time - love Property Brothers and Love It or List It.

Roku is cool. A lot cheaper than cable too. An even cheaper option if you have a tablet or smartphone is Google's Chromecast.

I got rid of all my Comcast services except for the internet about 3 years ago. It was getting outrageously expensive.

As far as the OP's question. I'm pretty sure the ones that are $17-$20 are digital copies of movies that you will then own the rights to.

In other words, even though there's no DVD, you own the rights to watch it anytime you want via your box (or online).

They oftentimes will have indie movies that are still in the theater too. Those are more expensive than the regular movies too.

I still have cable but I don't do any of the pay on demand, my bill is too high already.  I do still use the prime time on demand sometimes.  I usually end up watching 60 minutes that way because a game is on when it's supposed to start.  I know 60 minutes comes on after the game and it's the whole program but instead of continuing to check if it has started I just watch it on prime time on demand.
