Hey everyone, new cat owner here. My wife and I just picked up this little guy yesterday. We found him via Kijiji and the person selling him had him listed as a particular breed (not going to say it to prevent bias), but she wasn't the first owner of the cat and she didn't seem to know much about it's origins with its previous owner.

So I wanted to get the opinion on you cat experts as to what breed she resembles. I'm guessing there is a pretty good chance she's a mix, but I'd like to get some opinions

I would say domestic, mackerel tabby.  Sweet and still quite young, especielly to already having its third owner  (including the owner of his mom).

I suppose some would say he may be a Maine Coon in the being.  He has admittely the M on his forehead, no??    :)

Also long hairs growing from his ears - so he may even turn out as mediumhaired.

I mean, his fur looks like it could be medium haired.  But him being so young, we cant be sure as yet.  Its common kittens are fuzzy haired.

You will see better in just a few weeks.

Good luck!

Beautiful baby ;)

Not enough muzzle for a Maine Coon and hasn't got Norwegian Forest face profile. Maybe Siberian though :D

Did you get any papers with her ?

Yes she has the M on her forehead. that is usually a trait of domestic/tabby isn't it (I'm not well-versed in that kind of stuff yet).

The person I got her from said she was a Siberian cat and the reason they got her was because they had allergies and Siberians are supposed to be better with that. But they ended up selling her to us because their allergies were still acting up pretty bad, which makes me think that they might have been mis-informed in calling her a Siberian.

Yeah StefanZ was joking about the M on the forehead :lol3: All tabby have a M regardless of breed or not ;)

Not all Siberians are suitable for people with allergies. They might be ok with one but then not a different one. It depends on the the individual cat with how much levels of Fel d1, they produce.
One Siberian might produce lower levels yet another one in the same litter could produce higher levels.

Is there anything else I should look for in the future that would indicate if there is Siberian in her or not?

The wise GemsGem mentioned siberian, so...   :)      Siberians are sort off cousins to MCO, so the MCO shot wasnt so far away.   :)

Yeah, it was a little joke with that M.  ALL tabbies has this M, and it is often in unclear cases the trick to recognize a tabby...  But there is a old misunderstanding this M is typical for Maine coons, which it isnt. But many MCO are tabbies.     :)

Ok,  re  allergies.  Adult, spayed cats are safer as not allergy provocing, then small kittens.   Also, no serious breeder would sell the kitten so young. None.   And selling to a allergic family, would make sure they did had a plan B.  Perhaps demand to resell to the breeder with some discount of course.

So,  it may be the kitten will turn out to be a look alike.  He may even be in part a Siberian.   But he is hardly a purebred siberian of good stock.

Not with a "breeder"  like that.  Nope.   [did you got the certificate and papers? it doesnt sound so]

Sorry to say it, if you did wanted to have a real siberian.

If you wanted to have a sweet, wonderful cat, you did got one.   :)
