Yes, I've always talked to my cats, and they've always seemed to like it. .  .  I even go one step further and make up songs for my cats. OK , you guys will think I'm crazy but when I adopted Peaches I thought up a son for her.  Here it goes....

Hello my name is Peaches, I hope that you like that.  And if you take me home with you I'll be your very best cat!

Officially nuts, but I'm a composer at heart (though not a very good one) must have been 11 years year's of piano lessons....
Oh I love that little song! :heart4:

Not only do I talk to my cats, I also talk to strange cats that I don't know. We have lots of ferals and outdoor where I live and I just feel it's very rude to go past a cat and not say "Good morning". I don't do that to the humans I see though.

A cat is the best judge of character and if your cat doesn't like somebody, there's usually a reason why.

Many years ago, our Rainbow Baby Banshee, was still alive. She loved everybody and trusted everybody who came into the house. She would sit on the floor between two people she didn't even know and roll over, exposing her belly....she was that trusting.
Pam, I believe Anita an I were two of those people, I remember that so well.

I talk to my cat and my feral cats all the time. Peaches even answers me, it's funny because she will answer some questions with a very loud meow and sometimes with a very soft pitiful meow. It all depends what I'm saying to her. Peaches always has to have the last word. If I didn't have my cats to talk too I could go days without talking to anyone because I don't have any friends and I don't talk to my family much.

My feral cats seem to even know what I'm saying. They do know the word NO when I have to keep one of them away from someones bowl of food.

The one I miss the most talking too is my dog. She was my friend for 13 years and my constant shadow.

I talk to my cats all the time!

Both single sentences and actual conversations.

It's great when you have cats that actually answer you, like my Inara does!

Yep, I talk to them in Japanese and in English. They understand both languages perfectly.

Anyone else have bilingual cats?
That's awesome! I never thought to speak in different languages. My Mom is German, and will occasionally talk to our cat in German when she visits. I personally know a bit of French myself. I think I'll introduce some French to Nora, as she responds really well to English when we talk to her.

Oh good, so I'm not the only one then?
I always think passers by around here must think I'm totally off the rails because I always chatter to any cats I pass by when I'm out - and as most cats are out-doors here there are many.  There are a couple that are out regularly and I swear they approach me because they know I talk to them and give them pets when we meet.  How are you today.  Are you not cold.  Oh no, don't sit under the car - it's not safe....

Even my dad talked to the cat when he thought we couldn't here him. Her name was stewball but he called her Henry. Go figure.

I do that, too. If I see a cat outdoors I will usually say hello to it and then tell him/her to stay out of the street and to be careful because the world is full of mean people. I call them all baby or sweetie.

my husband and I both talk to them like crazy! i bet my neighbors think im crazy cause when i get home from work alot of times i can see them in the window waiting for me and ill start saying hi to them before i even get in the door!
:kitty3:
I do this too. I remember once I got out from the car and saw one of the girls at the front window waiting for me and said somthing along the lines of "hello my little love" and a voice said "well hello".
I didn't see my neighbour tinkering with his car behind the fence! :lol3:
It's a good job we get on well with them otherwise it could have been really embarrassing!

Oh yes it would definitely be rude not to say hello to the outside cats. I have some regulars that I talk to on my way to work and I end up worrying about them if I don't see them for a few days.

Paxi was my big friendly and chatty boy. We lost him in September and I miss the daily chatter. He was our official " spokescat". Now we are waiting to see if anyone takes over, ' cause it's going to be sadly quiet without him! But in general, absolutely yes everyday and all the time! If I'm at my Sister's I talk to hers and love them as my own. We sort of share her bunch and mine, depending on where we are.
Then, when we take our cats camping, there's sightseeing chatter and they show us things too.
Plus they drape themselves across the ( large) front dash so they can see and be seen. It's sometimes pretty funny when going through entry gates to various parks and they always get lots of attention. Love having them with us!

I always do that also.  Even if they're feral, one of which I fed outside 2 winters, I always talked to here kitty kitty, come get some food.  I also have a special name for my own cats food,  "come on Peaches, come on Zoe, come do your munch-che-cheese"

I have always talked to my cats. I especially loved talking to my Mickey (he passed back in July). Mickey always sat and listened. I would tell him everything, all about my day and if anything was wrong or troubling me. He would just sit there and listen. He would let out his sweet little meow in between my words, as if to say yes mommy I understand. Don't worry. Mickey is here with you.He was such a good kitty and truly my best friend. I miss him alot! Now, I talk to my new cat Shadow. He also sits and listens. I am not too sure he wants to, though. At times he just stares at me as though he is saying shut up already! I keep talking to him anyway. He will get used to it in time.
I also talk to any cat I may see. I just love cats and I would never pass one by without at least saying a friendly hello.
ConiKat, going camping with your cats. I think that is great!! You must surely have special cats.

My Amber will talk back to me but Sasha just listens, we never hear her unless she is in her carrier.
Animals are such good listeners and I think its an excellent way to bond with them.
I'm so sorry for your loss of Mickey. :rbheart:

I love the way my Burt's ears prick up and that funny little 'waddle' he has when he runs to me, all I have to do is say his name. Casper talks back, in fact he demands to talk, and loves doing so, especially when he wants something. Like trying to get me up at 3 in the morning! I talk to all cats, I love them all!

Back to " talking to cats".... I even talk to the wild ones at Zoos and so on. I once cooed and talked sweetly to a mountain lion who was inside her " house" in her pen. In short order she came out, gazed at me and gave me the slow blink, which I returned. Not long after that she rolled onto her back and squirmed as if expecting a nice belly rub and then began to purr very sweetly. This experience isn't one I'll ever forget, and I suspect that she does get belly rubs. After a while she came down and walked over to visit. She put her head up to the fence where my hand was and commenced rubbing her head all over the fence and what she could reach of my hand. What a memory for me! Dangerous or not I would do it again in a second! She was incredibly sweet and gentle, and " whuffed" right back at me every time I spoke. The place was called ( then) Beartooth Mountain Sanctuary, in Montana. It's not very big, but so obvious that every animal there is loved and treated well. Worth seeing if you are ever up that way. No fees, just donations. And the gardens were spectacular!
