OK, I admit it.....I hate wrapping anything. Even basic boxes. I don't wrap well and I don't enjoy it. Dear Richard, OTOH, loves to wrap packages and he does a beautiful job. All the corners match, all the lines match. It's pathetic. Really.
I don't know how he has the patience; his wrapping is beautiful. He wraps the packages for everybody and I wrap his things, usually on Christmas Eve while he and his mom are at church.
We don't do bows and ribbons anymore on packages, even for the grandchildren. Why? It's just another cat toy! Heck, those cats even like to chew the corners of the packages! Everybody is rather used to receiving packages with chewed corners by now; it happens every year. We normally don't bring out our wrapped packages until Christmas Eve for that very reason. I think I have a picture somewhere of Ms. Pepe all curled up on top of a present with a chewed corner, just napping away. Brats, I tell you. Brats. (When our granddaughter was younger, we handed her a gift. She looked at it and said, "There's holes in my present! Somebody chewed on my present!" I told her it was Rudolph; he was hungry, so he tasted her present. But I fed him some carrots before he left our house, so he was OK.
The things you tell your kids! And, to this day, Rudolph always has a special present for her because he "tasted" her gift years ago. Seriously, it's from Rudolph. Honest. And it usually has a chewed corner, too.
)
This year, Rick's "big" gift is a stand for his miter saw (that way he can take the saw outside to work, which saves on clean-up in the basement); he's wanted one now for a while. The box is about six feet long and about a foot in width and height. The box has been standing up against the wall next to the piano now for about two weeks, ever since I bought it. I ordered it from Home Depot, had it shipped to his parents and he picked it up in his truck. I'm not wrapping the thing, but I'll put a big red bow on it. It's not like he doesn't know what it is. But I will wrap his other gifts and put them under the tree.
I will put my sister and BIL's things in a big Christmas bag for them.
We do enjoy opening presents. Even when we know what the package is, we still "ooh" and "ahhh" over things. I guess it's corny, but we enjoy it.
Oh! And do you do stocking stuffers? We have stockings for Rick and for me as well as all the cats. Mollipop, Tabby, and Muffin have stockings with their names on them. I usually give Rick his Hallmark Tasmanian Devil tree ornament in his stocking. Some cashews from our local natural food store, some chocolate covered pretzels from our local candy place. A couple lottery tickets. A big post-a-note pad for his desk. Some little tablets (he keeps tablets in his truck, in his lunch box, on his desk, at work, etc. When you're forgetful, tablets come in very handily). Little things as I find them while I'm shopping. I wrap those, too.
The cats always get some catnip, two cans of Fancy Feast for each stocking, and some toys for each stocking.
